(OLNEY)  A frontal boundary will move through the area today bringing with it our next chance of precipitation later today, mainly afternoon and into the overnight.  With the front moving through with the precipitation, temperatures will begin to fall bringing cooler air into the area over the next few days.  The shifting track of the weather system will also bring cool and stable conditions with the system over the weekend, with some rain showers Saturday.  Dry conditions will return for Sunday and the start of the week on Monday.  -  Listen for updates.


 (NEWTON)  In state news – A museum that honors military veterans in western Illinois is poised to officially open and it’s going to be a lot bigger than originally planned. A grant and donations made it possible to buy a former classroom that will house the museum’s display vehicles.  The Pike County All Wars Museum in Pittsfield will have its grand opening on Saturday. 


(NEWTON)  Illinois poets are being given a chance to show their stuff in a statewide competition.  Secretary of State Jesse White says that entry forms are available for the 13th annual Emerging Writers Competition Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Award.  The competition named after the late-Pulitzer Prize winning poet is open to any Illinois resident at least 18 years of age.  The winner will receive $500 in cash, with second and third place also receiving cash.  The winning poems will be submitted for publication in various journals.  Entries must be postmarked by June 30th.


(OLNEY)  NEWTON)  The hottest concert line-up of the summer is nearly complete as State Fair officials announce four more nights of entertainment at Grandstand for the 2017 Illinois State Fair - one final concert announcement is still pending at this time - the newly announced acts include classic rock band Foghat on August 10th, singer/songwriter Chase Rice on August 11th, the acapella group Pentatonix on August 12th, and country music singer/songwriter Brad Paisley on August 13th, Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone on August 14th, country group Alabama on August 16th, single/songwriter/dancer Jason Derulo on August 17th, the Southern Uprising Tour with Montgomery Gentry / the Charlie Daniels Band / and the Marshall Tucker Band on August 18th, and John Mellencamp with Carlene Carter on August 20th - ticket sales go on sale on Saturday, April 29th via Ticketmaster or on the Illinois State Fairgrounds on May 1st - for more, logon at  www.illinois.gov/statefair.


(OLNEY)  The Illinois State Police in District 12 is urging all motorists to exercise due caution while traveling on Illinois roadways during the 2017 spring planting season – drivers should be extra alert as farmers move agriculture equipment from field to field, traveling at speeds of 25 miles per hour or less – drivers should be ready to reduce speed immediately upon encountering slow moving vehicles – also, all farmers are urged to make sure all slow moving vehicle emblems and flashing lights on their tractors and farm equipment are clean, clearly visible, and in working order – motorists should especially be alert while following farm equipment near an approaching intersection – let’s keep it safe on highways this spring.

Carmel, Fairfield, or near Robinson are offering the free classes – no matter the schedule, whether day, night, or around the clock online, there’s a convenient option to help obtain a GED – the Summer Semester starts on June 6th and registration is now open for Summer and Fall classes – folks can register at Olney Central College from 9:00 to 2:00 Monday thru Thursday and while appointments are recommended, they’re not required – call Lindsey at  618-395-7777   extension  2265  for more details.

(OLNEY)  The Richland County Relay For Life is coming up this Saturday evening at the Richland County High School in Olney – it all kicks off with the Opening Ceremony at 4:00 – the Survivor’s and Caregiver’s Lap begins at 6:00 with the Luminaria Ceremony to start at 9:00 – everything will finish up with the Closing Ceremony at 10:00 – a huge “thank you” goes out to everyone who has helped in any way in the many local fundraisers held by the various teams to benefit this year’s Relay For Life and our local fight against cancer.


(OLNEY)  The City of Olney is reminding all motorists that the intersection of Whittle Avenue and Illinois Route 130 is now closed and will remain closed until further notice due to construction work – in fact, Whittle Avenue between Route 130 north to Brentwood Avenue will be open to local traffic ONLY from today until further notice – also, don’t forget the road work continues on Kitchell Avenue, from Main Street to Chestnut Street, is closed as well – alternate routes around these two areas are needed until further notice.


(OLNEY/NEWTON)  There are two regular monthly school board meetings tonight. :  the Jasper County School Board meets tonight at 6:30 in Newton  :  the Richland County School Board meets tonight at 7:00 in Olney  :  both are open to the public.



    The St. Joseph DC fundraiser “wine tasting” is Saturday night at the Richland Country Club from 6:00 to 9:00, featuring four area wineries, plus a raffle, wine pull, and appetizers – it’s $15 per person and includes a complimentary wine glass – must be 21 to enter – tickets at TrustBank or St. Joe School Office in Olney

    The Olney VFW will host a benefit fundraiser for Shelly Barthelemy this Saturday evening – doors open at 4:00, a pulled pork barbeque dinner at 5:00, auction at 7:00, and live music from 9:00 until closing – also a 50/50 drawing and raffle – proceeds to help with medical expenses in Shelly’s fight against cancer

    The Crazyhorse 4-H Club has a fundraising pork burger cook out this Saturday at the Olney IGA from 10:00 to 2:00 – also brats, chips, & baked goods – a portion of the proceeds go to the local Shelter Friends

    The Olney Firefighters Association will host its “benefit breakfast” this Saturday morning with serving from 6:00 to 11:00 or until sold out at the Olney Fire Station on North Walnut Street – carry-outs available – donations accepted at the door – phone in orders available at  392-6341 – proceeds for scholarship help

    The Olney St. Joe Carnival is this Friday night with games from 5:00 to 7:00 and it’s smoked chicken legs, mac & cheese, green beans, and desserts all served from 5:00 to 6:30 - all are invited to attend

    The Ridge Runners 4-H club is having a porkburger sale on Saturday April 22nd at the Olney Rural King.  All the money raised will go to help with community projects.

    RCES 5th grade classes will perform their music program, “Shine Your Way”, today and tomorrow in the RCES dining hall.  Class of Dobbs, Michels and Mitchell performing today at 10:00 am.  Classes of Flittner, Muffler and Shipman will perform tomorrow at 10:00  -  everyone is invited to attend
