(OLNEY)  As a weak high pressure settles in over the state today, we’ll see more sunshine & less humid conditions, although it will stay warm this weekend – in fact, as that high pressure moves off to the east, we revert to a southerly wind flow on Sunday, which will pump more humid air into our area for the first two thirds of next week – at this point in time, no rain in the forecast thru next Thursday – listen for updates.


(NEWTON)  In state news – the Illinois Department of Revenue is providing general information regarding the recent Income Tax increase, and changes to various credits, deductions, and additions to income – taxpayers should go online to review the information & check out the various websites to determine how the recent change in tax rates impacts their status – for most taxpayers, their employees will change withholding amounts based on rate tables provided by the IDR – for all the details, go online at  www.tax.illinois.gov.


(OLNEY)  The Richland County Fair is finishing up in the Olney City Park – it’s the final day of activities on the fairgrounds with the carnival rides on the Midway for one more night and of course, the popular Demolition Derby tonight at 7:00 – the grandstand tickets are on sale at the Fair Board Office from 8:00 to 5:00 – plus new Miss Richland County Fair Queen Kylar Craig will be making the rounds – not to mention all the great concessions and fair food – it’s all at the 161st Richland County Fair in the Olney City Park.


(OLNEY)  Here’s some road improvement  and road construction announcements for our area  : 
*  the City of Olney has announced that the East Fork Lake parking lot near Rotary Park will be closed next Monday thru Thursday, July 17th thru 20th, for repair work 
*  IDOT has announced that starting next Tuesday, July 18th, Elbow Lane at the intersection of Illinois Route 130, just over 4 miles south of Olney, will be closed for a box culvert construction project – this closure will last approximately 8 weeks and alternate routes will be needed to avoid the intersection 
*  the construction work to replace the Bonpas Township Bridge on Oak Tree Road at Simmons Creek is continuing, with completion expected soon, within the next week or so – this section of Oak Tree Road is still closed to all thru traffic during the construction work in Richland County 
*  also, the road project that started earlier this week to replace the cross road culvert on Berryville Lane at Buck Run is continuing – Berryville Lane, between Oak Tree Road and Mt. Olive Road, is closed there
*  and the street construction work continues on the south end of Whittle Avenue in Olney 
all motorists are reminded to pay attention to all barricades and signs in these areas of road work.]


(OLNEY)  The DeCycles Ride Across America 2017 will be stopping in Olney today as they ride from the west coast to the east coast across the United States – an Olney resident, Dr. Dirk Rosenberg, is among the various bike riders taking part – the group will be arriving in Olney by using Illinois Route 250 from Noble and they’ll be stopping at Chilly Willy’s in downtown Olney for a mid-afternoon snack break – meanwhile, TrustBank will allow the group to use their parking lot during the stop – that’s all later today in Olney.



    It’s a “Free Movie Night” tomorrow night at the First Christian Church in Noble – doors open at 5:30 with the movie “The Case For Christ” to start at 6:00 – the child’s movie “Sing” will be shown at 6:00 in the church’s Fellowship Hall – there will be free popcorn and drinks – all ages are welcome to attend

    The Stringtown Picnic is tomorrow at the St. Joseph Catholic Church – the all-you-can-eat smorgasbord will be served from 11:00 to 2:00 in the Parish Center – tickets at the door & carry-outs available – also other food, fun, & games from 11:00 to 6:00, plus live entertainment and the raffle drawings at 6:00

    All are invited to the Olney Music Booster’s “Dunk Tank” fundraiser this Saturday afternoon & evening at the Richland County Fair – from 3:30 to 8:30, the Dunk Tank lineup includes Band Dads Bob Jellison and John Davis, RCHS Teacher Mandy Ginder, Marching Tiger Fan Tina Cannon, Band Groupie Danny Garcia, RCHS Band Director Christopher Jones, Olney Mayor Mark Lambird, and RCHS Teacher & Coach Klay Wheeler – come out and support it – all proceeds to benefit the Olney Music Boosters

    The County Line Sodbusters have their Annual Prairie Days Consignment Auction today on the Show Grounds at the east edge of Bible Grove in northern Clay County – consigned items must be farm equipment and/or farm related items – it’s buyer registration at 1:30, the auction starts at 2:00
