(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball – the Cardinals had an off day yesterday
* the Redbirds will take on former World Series foe over the next two games as they host the Red Sox
the Cardinals will host Boston for two games, then wraps up the home stand with three against the Giants.

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Baseball from yesterday – Olney dropped a tough game on the road
the Tigers dropped a game on the road to Centralia 14-13.
Olney will return to the diamond on Wednesday as they travel to Charleston then wrap up the regular season and finish the three game road trip on Thursday traveling to Mt. Vernon.

 

(NEWTON) in High School Baseball from yesterday – Newton won their last regular season game
The Eagles defeated South Central, 13-3
*  Lucas Geier picked up the win for the Eagles pitching four innings of one run baseball
*  At the plate the Eagles were led by Noah Wagy’s three hits and five RBI.
*  Lucas Geier also with three hits and three RBI, Nick Cohorst had two RBI on a base hit as well
The Eagles end the regular season at 14-8 and will enter regional play Thursday at Flora

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Baseball from yesterday – final regular season games being played
* Altamont over Flora, 4-3
* Teutopolis over Paris, 7-6

 

(NEWTON)  the IHSA Class 1A & 2A Softball Regionals continue today at various sites in Illinois
Games on tap for today in regional action:
* Class 2A @ Casey-Westfield  :  Tuscola playing Marshall
* Class 2A @ Teutopolis  :  Flora plays Lawrenceville today
* other Class 2A Regionals at Breese, Carmi, West Frankfort, and Johnston City
* Class 1A @ Bridgeport  :  Oblong plays Hutsonville
* Class 1A @ Bridgeport  :  Wayne City plays the host Lady Salukis
* other Class 1A Regionals at Cumberland, Altamont, and Woodlawn
all of the Class 1A and 2A Regional Championship games will be Saturday
the Class 3A and 4A Regionals begin next week

 

(NEWTON)  the IHSA Class 1A and 2A Baseball Regionals have the day off today

* Class 2A @ Flora  :  Robinson over Lawrenceville, 3-0

* Class 2A @ Paris  :  Casey-Westfield vs. Georgetown Ridge Farm
* other Class 2A Regionals at Fairfield, Harrisburg, Carterville, Trenton, and Greenville
* Class 1A @ Albion  :  Red Hill vs. Cisne
* other Class 1A Regionals at Christ Our Rock (Centralia), Altamont, and Oblong
all of the Class 1A and 2A Regional Championship games will be Saturday
the Class 3A and 4A Regionals are start next week

 

(OLNEY)  the downstate Boys Class L State Track Meet was Saturday at Carterville
Collinsville won the 38 team event, followed by Carriel – O’Fallon and Mascoutah
* Salem was fourth and Marion was fifth – the Olney Cubs finished in 28th place
Olney’s top fifteen finishers included
* Jonas Burckhartt tied for 5th in the pole vault
* Barak Berger was 7th in the pole vault
* Gavin Kirby was 9th in the 1600 meter run
* Garrett Wright, Dylan Reed, Jacob Taylor, and Saul Jones was 9th in the 400 meter relay
congratulations to the Olney Cubs this past junior high track season

 

(OLNEY)  the downstate Girls Class L State Track Meet was Saturday at Carterville
Marion won the 39 team event, followed by Carriel – O’Fallon and Collinsville
* Triad was fourth and Whiteside was fifth – the Olney Lady Cubs finished in 34th place
Olney’s top fifteen finishers included
* Madelyn Rusk, Jocelyn VanMatre, Maria Mayorga, & Kristen Greenwood / 7th in the 800 meter relay
* Allison Harness, Bentley Farris, Adrielle Smith, and Carley Greenwood / 9th in the 1600 meter relay
* Maria Mayorga was 11th in the 100 meter dash and 13th in the long jump
* Joan Biyok was 14th in the pole vault
congratulations to the Olney Lady Cubs this past junior high track season

    

                                  LOCAL AND AREA SPORTS REMINDERS

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney Tiger Boys Basketball Camp will be held May 22nd thru 25th, Monday thru Thursday, at the Richland County Elementary School Gym in Olney – the camp is open to any boy entering grades 1 thru 8 with the cost at $30 per player – sessions for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders will be held from 8:00 to 9:30 – sessions for 4th and 5th graders will be held from 10:00 to 12 noon – and sessions for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 – registration will be held 30 minutes prior to each session on that Monday – registration forms are available at all of the Richland County Schools in Olney – for more information or details, call Olney Tiger Basketball Coach Rob Flanagan, at  618-393-7072
