in the American League Wild Card game in New York
* the Yankees beat the Twins, 8-4
the National League Wild Card game is tonight as Colorado plays at Arizona
the American League Division Series both begin tomorrow night in Houston and Cleveland

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Golf at the Class 2A Regional at the Effingham Country Club
Mattoon won the eight team event by beating out 2nd place Charleston by 6 strokes, 315 to 321
* Effingham was 3rd at 341, followed by Lawrenceville / Red Hill at 361 and Salem at 371
* Paris was next with 378 points, followed by Olney at 381 and Greenville at 458
so it’s Mattoon, Charleston, and Effingham all advancing to next Monday’s Sectional as teams
the Match Medalist was Mattoon’s Nicholas Nguyen with a 2 over par 74 after a one hole playoff
nine other individuals will also advance to the Sectional next Monday at Salem

the Tigers played Teutopolis to a 2-2 tie on Ed Webber Field at Olney Central College

Olney won the junior varsity match over Teutopolis, 1-0 on a goal scored by Isaac Pampe

the Lady Eagles won the varsity match over Flora in two sets, 25-11, 25-19
* Newton was led by Abby Frohning, Kelsi Geltz, Josie Meinhart, Ali Bierman, and Maddi Hemrich
Newton won the junior varsity match in three sets

the Lady Tigers lost the varsity match to visiting Paris in two sets, 19-25, 21-25
* Olney was led by Emi Rose, Faith Stallard, Taylor Ferguson, Addie Hemrich, and Colleen Inyart
Olney won the junior varsity match in two sets

(NEWTON)  in Boys High School Cross Country yesterday at Sam Parr State Park near Newton
Lawrenceville won the four team meet by beating 2nd place Neoga, 23 to 58
* the host Eagles were only 5 points back in 3rd place with 63 points
* Cowden-Herrick / Beecher City was 4th with 85 points

*  Victor Sandschaffer finished in 6th place, followed by teammate Tucker Rieman in 8th place

in the two semi-final games in the consolation / elimination round bracket

(OLNEY)  the Walmart DC 6059 will host a fundraising Bass Tournament on East Fork Lake this Friday with all the proceeds to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network – the cost is $25 per person with an optional $10 Big Bass contest – those taking part should be at the boat ramp no later than 6:30 that Friday morning with the boat take-off order to be determined – it’s a 6 legal size fish limit / total weight with prizes for the first place boat as well as Big Bass – the weigh in at the boat ramp is at 1:00 and tourney rules will be handed out prior to take-off – all area fishermen are urged to take part and help out the Children's Miracle Network

(OLNEY)  the Walmart DC 6059 will host a fundraising Bass Tournament on East Fork Lake next Friday, October 6th, with all the proceeds to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network – the cost is $25 per person with an optional $10 Big Bass contest – those taking part should be at the boat ramp no later than 6:30 that Friday morning with the boat take-off order to be determined – it’s a 6 legal size fish limit / total weight with prizes for the first place boat as well as Big Bass – the weigh in at the boat ramp is at 1:00 and tourney rules will be handed out prior to take-off – all area fishermen are urged to take part and help out the CMN

 

(NEWTON)  the Newton Elmentary PTO will have its Annual Eagle Challenge Color Fun 5K Run / Walk and One Mile Kids Run today – it’s registration at 7:00 this morning on the southwest corner of the square in downtown Newton – the race will start at 8:00 with the Kids Run to follow at 8:10 – the cost is $20 per adult and $10 per child and it includes t-shirt for all taking part – all are invited to come out, get splashed with orange & blue for Homecoming Week, and help raise funds for the local PTO

(NEWTON)  the Lincoln Trail College Statesmen baseball team is returning to Busch Stadium this weekend for an exhibition game – the Statesmen will play Lewis & Clark Community College this Sunday, October 1st – this will be the third consecutive year the two teams will match up against each other after a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium – tickets are still on sale, which includes a ticket to the Cardinals’ final regular season game against the Brewers, plus the Cardinals will give out free ticket vouchers for a 2018 game next year, and then the Statesmen and Trailblazers game to follow as well – tickets for the LTC fundraiser are now on sale – call Coach Kevin Bowers at  618-546-2269  or by email at  This email address is being protected from spambots.
