(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball – it’s the All Star Game coming up tonight from Miami
* the battle between the National League and American League is scheduled for a 7:00 start (Central time)
the Cardinals begin the 2nd half of their season with a ten game road trip starting Friday night in Pittsburgh

 

(OLNEY)  in Summer Swim Team Competition from this past Saturday at the McLeansboro Invitational
the Olney Tigersharks won the eight team meet by beating out 2nd place Fairfield, 404 to 328
* Harrisburg was 3rd with 294 points, followed by host McLeansboro (293) and Carmi (257)
* the Evansville YMCA was 6th with 254 points, then Mt. Carmel (105) and Mt. Vernon, Indiana (29)
Olney had seven high point winners out of the only 22 Tigersharks that competed in Hamilton County
* Blair Grove in the 8 Year Old Girls Division
* Arianne Leslie in the 9 Year Old Girls Division
* Danielle Brown in the 11 Year Old Girls Division
* Bree Holdren in the 12 Year Old Girls Division
* Jadyn Holubek in the 13 Year Old Girls Division
* Marie Mayorga in the 14 Year Old Girls Division
* Owen Powell in the 16 Year Old Boys Division
the Tigersharks are back in the water tonight with a triangular meet down at Mt. Vernon, Indiana
the Olney swimmers are then back in action this coming Saturday for a 9-team event down in Carmi

 

(EFFINGHAM)  the Senior Legion District Baseball Tournament finished up last night in Effingham
in the first championship game
* Newton lost to Effingham, 18-13
then in the second and final championship game
* Newton beat Effingham, 10-3
Newton Post 20 now advances to the Senior Legion Division Tournament coming up in Highland

 

(MT. CARMEL)  the 12 Year Old District One Little League Tournament continued in Mt. Carmel
the elimination round game that incorrectly finished Sunday was completed last night
* Lawrenceville came from behind to beat Salem, 12-11
another elimination round game was then played last night
* Lawrenceville beat Flora (Clay County), 5-1
now with only two teams left, the championship game is set for tonight
* Olney will play Lawrenceville at 7:00 this evening
* if a second championship game is needed, it would be played tomorrow night
the championship team will advance to the 12 Year Old Section Tournament starting this weekend

 

(ROBINSON)  the 11 Year Old District One Little League Tournament continued last night in Robinson
there were two elimination round games in consolation action last night
* Mt. Carmel beat Salem, 18-3
* Robinson beat Lawrenceville, 15-11
there are two more games scheduled for tonight
* a winner’s bracket semi-final game between Olney and Flora (Clay County)
* then an elimination round game between Mt. Carmel and Robinson
after another elimination game tomorrow night, the championship game will be Thursday night

 

(FLORA)  the 10 Year Old District One Little League Tournament continued last night in Flora
there were two elimination round games in consolation action last night
* Robinson beat Mt. Carmel, 10-4
* Salem beat Lawrenceville, 10-8
there are two more games on the schedule for tonight
* a winner’s bracket semi-game between Olney and Flora (Clay County)
* and an elimination round game between Robinson and Salem
after another elimination round game tomorrow night, the championship game will be Thursday night

(OLNEY)  the 21st Annual Olney Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing is set for Friday, August 11th, at the Richland Country Club in Olney – it’s lunch at 11:30 with tee time at 1:00 – a lunch ticket only is $10 per person while the four person team fee is at $300, which includes lunch, golf carts, and the 18 holes of golf – hole sponsorships are also available – to sign up or for details, call the Chamber office at  618-392-2241

(OLNEY)  the Richland County Recreation Council will host its White Squirrel Triathlon on Saturday, August 5th, and the registration now open – the 7th annual event will include a 200 meter swim at the Musgrove Aquatic Center, a 14.6 mile gravel-free bike ride, and a 5 kilometer run – there have been over 250 participates in past years, not to mention the 150-plus local and area volunteers as well – all proceeds help with the local Richland County Recreation Council programs and sponsorships – registration for the 2017 Triathlon is now available online at  www.rcrcolney.com/white-squirrel-triathlon  – sign up today

(OLNEY)  the 8th Annual MS “Join the Movement” event is coming up on Saturday, July 29th, at the Richland County Middle School in Olney – it’s all to create a world free from Multiple Sclerosis – the activities begin with the 25 mile Bike Ride at 7:30 that morning, then the 5K MS Challenge Run at 7:35, the 5K Walk at 7:40, and the MS Walk which is Handicap Accessible starts at 7:45 – while the registration fees are waived for all Richland County youth 18 and under by the Carrie Winter Trust, the registration will be available one hour before each event – printable forms are available online at  www.olneyms.org  or on the “Join the Movement” Facebook page – all event participants and the general public are then invited to the Olney VFW for a meal at 5:00 that evening, followed by a live fundraising auction at 6:00 – the meal is by donation at the door, plus carry-outs will be available – all proceeds to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the local MS Chapter – again, for more details, logon at  www.olneyms.org

*  the Redbirds won on Saturday, 4-1 and won again yesterday, 6-0
here’s a look at how the rest of the Midwestern teams did on Saturday and Sunday
* the teams that swept two games were the Reds and Pirates
* the teams that split two games were the Brewers, White Sox, Indians, Tigers, Astros, Braves, and Rangers
* the teams that dropped two games were the Cubs, Royals, and Twins
the Cardinals and all other teams now have a few days and nights off due to the All Star Break
after tonight’s Home Run Contest, the All Star Game is tomorrow night at 7:00 in Miami

there was only one game played Friday night due to a two hour rain delay
* Olney lost a close one to Mt. Vernon, 4-2
then there were four games played on Saturday
* Effingham beat Robinson, 11-5
* with a first round bye, Newton shutout Mt. Vernon, 2-0
* in the first elimination round game – Olney beat Robinson in extra innings, 7-6
* and in the winner’s bracket semi-final game – Newton held off Effingham, 11-8
there were two elimination round games played yesterday, on Sunday
* Mt. Vernon eliminated Olney, 13-9
* then Effingham eliminated Mt. Vernon, 14-4
that sets up the championship game tonight at 5:30 between Newton and Effingham
* should Effingham win, a second championship game would be played tonight at 8:00
tonight’s championship team will advance to the Senior Legion Region Tournament later this week

 

(MT. CARMEL)  the 12 Year Old District One Little League Tournament continued in Mt. Carmel
there were two first round games last Thursday night
* Robinson beat Mt. Carmel, 3-2
* Salem beat Lawrenceville, 5-4
then the winner’s bracket quarter-final games were Friday night
* Flora (Clay County) beat Robinson, 12-2
* Olney beat Salem, 13-8
in the first two elimination round games on Saturday
* Salem beat Mt. Carmel, 13-1
* Lawrenceville beat Robinson, 6-3
then two more games were supposedly played yesterday (Sunday)
* in the winner’s bracket semi-final – Olney blanked Flora (Clay County), 13-0
* however, the elimination round game ended incorrectly because of time and will be finished tonight
   * the final inning will start tonight at 5:30 with Salem leading Lawrenceville, 11-9
then another elimination round game will be played tonight
* the Salem / Lawrenceville winner will play Flora (Clay County) at 7:00
tonight’s winner will play Olney in the championship game tomorrow night
if Olney loses tomorrow night, it would force another championship game on Wednesday night

* Lawrenceville plays Robinson at 8:00
there will be two more games tomorrow night
* a winner’s bracket semi-final game between Olney and Flora (Clay County)
* an elimination round game between tonight’s two winners
after another elimination game Wednesday night, then the championship game on Thursday night

* the teams that lost were the Pirates, Braves, Tigers, White Sox, Reds, Royals
the Cardinals continue their three game weekend series at home against the New York Mets this afternoon

 

(OLNEY)  the 2017 Senior Legion District Tournament started last night in Effingham
* Olney lost its first game falling to Mt. Vernon, 4-2
* no score was available from the second game between Effingham and Robinson
the five team double elimination tournament will continue thru today and tomorrow
there are four games scheduled for today
* with a first round bye, Newton will play Mt. Vernon this morning at 11:00
* the first elimination game is today at 1:30 between Olney and the Effingham / Robinson loser
* then a winner's bracket semi-final game this evening at 5:00
* and another elimination round game tonight at 7:30
the final two, maybe three games, will be played tomorrow at 3:00 and 6:00, then at 8:00, if needed
the Tournament Champion will advance to the Regional Tournament next weekend

* Flora beat Robinson, 12-2
* Olney beat Salem, 13-8 after an hour and ten minute rain/lightning delay. Hats off to the Olney fans that stuck around to support the team.
the tournament continues with two elimination round games later today and evening
* Mt. Carmel plays Salem at 4:00
* Lawrenceville plays Robinson at 6:00
then its a single winner's bracket semi-final game tomorrow
* Olney will play Flora at 4:00
followed by an elimination round game on Sunday
* today's winners will matchup at 6:00
then single games on Monday night and Tuesday night, possibly Wednesday night, if needed
the District One champion advances to the 12 Year Old Section Tournament to be hosted by Olney

the team consists of thirteen players chosen from the Olney Major League teams – that list includes
* Zechariah Wease, Evan Uhl, Cove Trout, Gage Nuttall, Brett Kocher, Holden Hough, Will Goodman
* Maddox Dorn, Ayden Cothern, Karson Burton, Dawson Brown, Brayden Brown, and Carter Beard
the 12 Year Old coaching staff includes five volunteers
* Manager Jeremiah Brown – Coaches Mike Trout, Brett Beard, Eric Nuttall, and Dustin Brown

 

(OLNEY)  the remaining Little League All Star Teams will begin action coming up this Saturday
* the Olney 11 Year Old’s will be in District One action at Robinson
* the Olney 10 Year Old’s will be in District One action at Flora
* the Olney Softball All Stars will not be in sanctioned postseason action, but play a few area games
* the Olney 13-14 Year Old’s will be in Section Tournament action on July 15th in Northwestern Illinois

(OLNEY)  the 21st Annual Olney Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing is set for Friday, August 11th, at the Richland Country Club in Olney – it’s lunch at 11:30 with tee time at 1:00 – a lunch ticket only is $10 per person while the four person team fee is at $300, which includes lunch, golf carts, and the 18 holes of golf – hole sponsorships are also available – to sign up or for details, call the Chamber office at  618-392-2241

 

(OLNEY)  Olney Central College has announced the 2017 Summer Basketball Camp for both boys & girls entering grades K thru 8 – the four day camp will run each morning, Monday thru Thursday, August 7th thru 10th, in the OCC Gym, with the Blue Knight’s Basketball coaching staff conducting the camp – it’s for grades K thru 4 from 9:00 to 10:30 each morning, then grades 5 thru 8 each morning from 10:30 to 12:00 – the camp objectives are to improve athletic skills and confidence in all aspects of basketball – the $50 per player cost will include a camp T-shirt – all forms and fees must be received by August 1st to guarantee a camp T-shirt – registration forms are available on our Freedom929 Facebook page or contact Blue Knights Coach Mike Burris if any questions – call  812-381-3569  or email Coach Burris at  This email address is being protected from spambots. (OLNEY)  the Richland County Recreation Council will host its White Squirrel Triathlon on Saturday, August 5th, and the registration now open – the 7th annual event will include a 200 meter swim at the Musgrove Aquatic Center, a 14.6 mile gravel-free bike ride, and a 5 kilometer run – there have been over 250 participates in past years, not to mention the 150-plus local and area volunteers as well – all proceeds help with the local Richland County Recreation Council programs and sponsorships – registration for the 2017 Triathlon is now available online at  www.rcrcolney.com/white-squirrel-triathlon  – sign up today

 

(OLNEY)  the Richland County Athletic Association’s “A League of Our Own” Ladies Fastpitch Softball is looking for teams for upcoming tournaments scheduled for the end of July thru October in Olney – teams must consist of players age freshmen in high school and older – for details, call Ed at  618-320-9590

 

(OLNEY)  the 8th Annual MS “Join the Movement” event is coming up on Saturday, July 29th, at the Richland County Middle School in Olney – it’s all to create a world free from Multiple Sclerosis – the activities begin with the 25 mile Bike Ride at 7:30 that morning, then the 5K MS Challenge Run at 7:35, the 5K Walk at 7:40, and the MS Walk which is Handicap Accessible starts at 7:45 – while the registration fees are waived for all Richland County youth 18 and under by the Carrie Winter Trust, the registration will be available one hour before each event – printable forms are available online at  www.olneyms.org  or on the “Join the Movement” Facebook page – all event participants and the general public are then invited to the Olney VFW for a meal at 5:00 that evening, followed by a live fundraising auction at 6:00 – the meal is by donation at the door, plus carry-outs will be available – all proceeds to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the local MS Chapter – again, for more details, logon at  www.olneyms.org
