the Fighting Illini fell out at Nebraska, 63-64 on a last second shot at the buzzer
* Illinois is now 10-9 on the year and at 0-6 in the Big Ten Conference
the Illini will try to end a four game losing skid as they travel to Wisconsin this Friday night

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Wrestling last Saturday – Olney competed at a 20-team tournament
the Annual Marty Williams Invitational was held up at Mahomet-Seymour High School
* Naperville won the annual event by beating out the host 2nd place Bulldogs, 617 to 472
* Metamora was 3rd (409), followed by Rochelle (377), Belleville West (373), and Normal West (371)
* Mattoon was 7th (342), then Mt. Zion (313.5), Byron (309.5), and St Laurence (301.5)
* Champaign Centennial was 11th (292), followed by Olney (289.5), and Manteno (247.5)
* Bishop McNamara was 14th (240) then Pontiac (215), Riverton (211), and Peoria Notre Dame (196)
* Champaign Central was 18th (151), followed by Rantoul (147) and Decatur Eisenhower (116)
Olney had five wrestlers that made it to the podium by placing in the top 8 of their weight class
* Kyle Beasley was in the 195 pound championship match but lost, finishing 2nd, winning four matches
* Ean Pottorff was 5th in the 145 pound class by winning four of five matches
* Jacob Ferguson was 6th in the 152 pound class by winning three of five matches
* Reese Britton was 7th in the 125 pound class by winning three of five matches
* Skyler Sutton was 7th in the 285 pound class by winning three of five matches
those from Olney that finished in the top fourteen in their respective class

* last night’s elimination round game between Newton and Red Hill was rescheduled for 5:00 tonight

the tournament’s two consolation bracket semi-final games are scheduled for tomorrow night

* the camp will be held on Sunday afternoon, February 25th, from 1:00 to 4:00
* the camp will be conducted at both the OCC Gymnasium and at Britton's Bullpen in Olney
* led by the Blue Knights coaching staff and players, the camp will focus all baseball skills
* the cost for the one day camp is $60 per player
* campers will need to bring their baseball gloves, a bat, a batting helmet, and tennis shoes

the Olney Little League is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 15 years old

the Cubs won the 8th grade game over Fairfield, 46-13 as the varsity improves to 14-3 on the year
* Olney was led by Chase Travis with a double/double, 22 points and 10 rebounds
* Drew Blank and Zacheriah Wease each scored 8 points apiece
Olney won the 7th grade game over Fairfield, 33-20 as the junior varsity improves to 10-5 on the year
* also congratulations to Coach Rick Franklin who was honored prior to the varsity game
* Coach Franklin was presented with the SIJHSAA’s new Longevity Coaching Award which bears his name
the Cubs are back in action next Tuesday night when they host North Knox, Indiana at RCMS
* the 7th grade / junior varsity game next Tuesday night will begin earlier than normal with a 5:30 start time

the Blue Knights to a tough John A. Logan squad in “The Dungeon”, 91-85
* Josiah Wallace led OCC with 29 points and 8 rebounds – Anfernee King added 19 points off the bench
* also double digits for the Blue Knights from Nathan Scott with 12 and Tyler Witz with 11
* 17th-ranked John A. Logan improves to 13-2 on the year, now 4-1 in the GRAC
* the Blue Knights fall back to 10-4 overall, now at 3-3 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
* OCC is back in action Saturday afternoon at 3:00 at Lewis & Clark Community College over in Godfrey

* sophomore Kayla Sanford led OCC with 20 points, while freshman Kimi Stokes scored 12 points
* sophomore Hannah Coleman had another double/double with 11 points and 10 rebounds
* the Lady Knights improve to 10-5 on the year, now at 5-1 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
* the Lady Vols drop to 10-4 overall, now at 4-1 in the GRAC
* OCC is back in action next Monday night when they host the Greenville JV in “The Dungeon”

the tournament’s final three games were played at the Middle School in Cisne
* it was Grayville over Olney St. Joe in the consolation championship game, 40-28
* the Cats were led in scoring by Gabriel Rodriguez with 8 points
in the tournament’s final two games last night
* Geff beat New Hope in the third place game
* Jasper took the championship game with a win over the host Runnin’ Lions
St. Joe is back in regular season action at home tomorrow night against Grayville
* it will be 8th Grade Night as players and parents will be recognized – it’s junior varsity action at 6:00

 

(OLNEY)  it’s back to Olney Cubs Basketball tonight at the Richland County Middle School
the Cubs are scheduled to host the teams from Fairfield tonight in Olney
* due to the predicted forecast, tonight’s 7th grade game time has been moved up to 5:00, instead of 6:00
* that means the varsity 8th grade will start about an hour earlier than normal as well
* and it’s a special night in the Middle School Gym on this Thursday night
* Coach Rick Franklin will receive  the SIJHSAA Longevity Coaching Award that bears his name
* the presentation by the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association will be between games
* the SIJHSAA established the Rick Franklin Longevity Award during its October meeting last fall
* it’s for downstate coaches who have coached for at least 20 years in the same school district
* Lady Cubs Coach Norm Henderson was honored by receiving the award earlier this school year
* in his 49th consecutive year of coaching, Coach Franklin no doubt goes above & beyond his duties
the public is invited out to help recognize Coach Franklin tonight at the Richland County Middle School

however, the LIC teams are all idle on this Thursday night with the LIC Tournament scheduled to start
* the play-in game between 8th-seeded Red Hill will play 9th-seeded Robinson is tomorrow night at 7:00
the Tournament’s four quarter-final games are scheduled for Saturday at Casey-Westfield High School
* top-seeded Olney plays the Red Hill / Robinson winner at 3:00
* 4th-seeded Casey-Westfield plays 5th-seeded Flora at 4:30
* 2nd-seeded Paris plays 7th-seeded Lawrenceville at 6:00
* 3rd-seeded Marshall plays 6th-seeded Newton at 7:30
the semi-finals are slated for next week – winner’s bracket Tuesday night, loser’s bracket Wednesday night
