(NEWTON)  in regional softball semi-final action yesterday – Newton advances to the title game  :
*  the Lady Eagles defeated Lawrenceville, 10-0 as top-seeded Newton outhit the host squad, 14 to 4
*  Newton’s Keidrah Hardiek was the winning pitcher with the six inning shutout and seven strike outs
*  Morgan Swingler & Brittany Fore each had three hits and three RBI – Gabby Zerrusen also had three hits
*  now at 17&8, the Lady Eagles will play the Flora/Fairfield winner in the title game on Saturday

 
 
(NOBLE)  in regional softball semi-final action yesterday – Noble / Clay City moves on to the title game  :
*  the Lady Wildcats beat Red Hill, 10-4 as each team had eleven hits in the game
*  NCC's Darcie Hawkins was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete seven innings and striking out four
*  Kaylee Kuenstler had three hits and three RBI – KJ Royse had two hits and two runs scored
*  improving to 8&11, the Lady Wildcats now advance to the title game at 11:00 Saturday morning

(OLNEY)  the downstate Class L State Track Meets were held in Carterville last Saturday  :
*  a tip of the hat to six young men and ladies who placed at the State Meet
    *  Cub Trevor Dobbs finished 5th in the boy's pole vault
    *  Hannah Reeves finished 7th in the girl's discus
    *  Gavin Lathrop finished 8th in the boy's 200 meter dash
    *  Jynsen Yonaka finished 8th in the girl's 100 meter dash
    *  Nathan DeMeyer finished 8th in the boy's pole vault
    *  Lauren Eagleson finished 8th in the 800 meter dash

(OLNEY)  several sports camps are coming up in June – here’s the local list of activities coming up  :
*  the Olney Tiger Boy’s Basketball Camp is May 28th thru 31st with the cost at $40 per player – for those in grades 1 thru 3 from 8:00 to 9:30 at the ERES Gym – for those in grades 4 and 5 from 9:30 to 11:30 at the ERES Gym – for those in grades 6 thru 8 from 1:00 to 3:00 in ERHS Ron Herrin Gym – forms are available at local schools or by contacting Coach Rob Flanagan
*  the Olney Lady Tigers Youth Basketball Camps are June 3rd thru 6th at the Elementary School in Olney at a cost of $35 per player – for those in grades 1 thru 3 from 8:30 to 10:00 each morning – for those in grades 4 thru 6 from 10:30 to 12 noon – forms available at local schools or contact Coach Mark Anselment

(OLNEY)  the Ladies Fastpitch Softball “League of Our Own” in Olney will have an informational meeting on Saturday morning, June 1st, at Ophelia’s Cup in Olney, starting at 10:00 – the League is looking for teams for the upcoming season, which is scheduled to start July 1st and continue thru the season-ending League Tournament set for the first week of October, with all games to be played in Musgrove Park – all players must be a freshmen in high school or older – the League is a part of the Richland County Athletic Association, a strictly non-profit organization – for details, call Ed at 618-837-0662 or 618-838-1522

*  in yesterday’s 12 noon consolation bracket game – Wabash Valley eliminated Rend Lake, 10-0
*  in the championship game – 2nd-seeded Kaskaskia beat top-seeded Wabash Valley, 17-7 in seven innings
*  the Kaskaskia Blue Devils now advance to the Midwest District Tournament later this weekend


 
(OLNEY)  in high school baseball yesterday – Olney lost a non-conference game on the road  :
*  the Tigers lost to Centralia, 8-1 as the host Orphans outhit visiting Olney, 11 to 2
*  Olney’s Nolan Shan had a single and run scored – Dallas Peck had a two out RBI single
*  the Tigers fall back to 19&7 on the year and return to action tomorrow traveling to Charleston

(OLNEY)  the Little Illini Conference Boys Tennis Tournament was Saturday – Olney wins the crown  :
*  the Tigers won their first-ever LIC Conference Championship
*  Olney had 24.5 points, Robinson had 17.5, Flora with 14, Newton with 8.5, and Casey-Westfield with 8
    *  Nick Kuhl & Derek Walker won the doubles with wins over Flora, Robinson, & Casey-Westfield
    *  Levi Weiler finished second in the singles with wins over Newton & Flora, but a loss from Robinson
    *  Olney’s Cameron Pearcy & Austin Urfer were fourth in the doubles
    *  Olney’s Andrew Garrett finished tied for fifth in the singles competition
    *  noticed as LIC First-Team All Conference were Nick Kuhl, Derek Walker, and Levi Weiler
*  the Tennis Tigers are back on the court tomorrow at Casey-Westfield to finish up their regular season


 
(OLNEY)  in high school baseball Saturday – the first-ever Tiger Classic was played at Millspaugh Field  :
*  Olney won an exciting first game by slipping by Mt. Zion, 7-6 in eight innings
*  Harrisburg won the second game with a 12-4 victory over Mt. Zion
*  Harrisburg then won the third and final game over Olney, 3-0
*  the Tigers are now 19&6 on the year and return to regular season action today, traveling to Centralia


 
(OLNEY)  in high school softball – Olney won its Lady Tiger Classic played Saturday at ERHS  :
*  the Lady Tigers won the event’s first game over South Central, 21-0 in five innings
*  in game two – Lawrenceville beat Oblong, 6-3
*  then in the third place game – South Central came back to defeat Oblong, 2-1
*  and in the championship game – the Lady Tigers beat Lawrenceville, 5-0
*  now at 21&10 on the year, the Lady Tigers finish their regular season on Thursday at Charleston

(NEWTON)  in high school softball yesterday – Newton finished its regular season with a win at home  :
*  during Senior Night, the Lady Eagles slipped by Charleston, 10-9 in nine innings
*  Keidrah Hardiek was Newton’s winning pitcher throwing all nine innings and striking out six
*  Newton’s Brittany Fore had four hits and one RBI – Karsyn McCoy had three hits and three RBI
*  Newton’s Keidrah Hardiek helped herself with two big hits and four RBI on the day
*  now 16&8 on the year, the Lady Eagles play next Tuesday in the Lawrenceville Regional as the #1 seed

 

(NOBLE)  also in high school softball – a part of the MTC Softball Tournament was played yesterday  :
*  one of the two semi-final games was played in Wayne City while the other game was rained out in Noble
*  at Wayne City, the top-seeded Lady Indians were upset by 5th-seeded Waltonville, 7-3
*  the other semi-final between 3rd-seeded Noble / Clay City and 2nd-seeded Woodlawn will be today
    *  the game has been moved to Woodlawn with a scheduled start this afternoon at 12 noon
*  that winner will then turn around and play Waltonville for the Tournament Championship at around 2:30


 
(OLNEY)  the NJCAA Region 24 Baseball Tournament is set to continue today at Kaskaskia College  :
*  5th-seeded Blue Knights will play 6th-seeded Lincoln Trail in an elimination game at 10:00 this morning
*  the second game at 1:00 will have 2nd-seeded Kaskaskia against 3rd-seeded Rend Lake
*  the third game at 4:00 today has top-seeded Wabash Valley up against 4th-seeded John A. Logan
*  then three more games tomorrow with two more games set for next Monday
*  the second and final championship round game, if needed, would be played next Tuesday afternoon

 

(OLNEY)  in high school baseball – the first-ever Olney Classic has some changes for today  :
*  the three-team round robin event will start an hour later due to the field conditions
*  plus, the game opponents have changed around a little to accommodate one of the visiting teams
*  the lineup as the Olney Tigers playing Mt. Zion in the first game this morning at 11:00
*  then in the second game at around 1:00 or 1:30, Mt. Zion will play Harrisburg
*  the third and final game scheduled to start at around 3:30 or 4:00 will have Olney against Harrisburg
*  there will be plenty of concessions available and all are invited out to Bill Millspaugh Field

 

(OLNEY)  in high school softball – the Lady Tiger Classic will be played on the ERHS Softball Field  :
*  the first game at 9:00 this morning will feature Olney against South Central
*  then at 11:00, it’s Oblong against Lawrenceville

Friday  :  the Cardinals begin a ten game home stand with the first of three against Colorado tonight
Friday  :  the Cubs are at Washington  :  the White Sox host the L.A. Angels  :  the Reds host Milwaukee


 
(OLNEY)  the NJCAA Region 24 Baseball Tournament began yesterday, but only two games were played  :
*  the 5th-seeded Blue Knights opened up against 4th-seeded John A. Logan in the tournament’s first game
    *  OCC led 9-8 with one out in the bottom of the tenth when the rains came for a 30 minute delay
    *  then the Volunteers scored two runs with two outs to win the game, 10-9 in ten innings
*  the second game was also interrupted by a thunderstorm with a 45 minute delay
    *  eventually, 3rd-seeded Rend Lake held on to slip by 6th-seeded Lincoln Trail, 2-1
*  but, due to the heavy rains, all of today’s games have been pushed back to tomorrow
    *  the elimination game at 10:00 Saturday morning has the Blue Knights up against Lincoln Trail
*  the second game at 1:00 will have 2nd-seeded Kaskaskia against 3rd-seeded Rend Lake
*  the third game at 4:00 tomorrow has top-seeded Wabash Valley up against 4th-seeded John A. Logan
*  then three more games on Sunday with the finals now next Monday

*  in a game moved to Olney, Casey-Westfield beat the host Tigers, 6-2 as Olney was outhit, 10 to 6
*  Olney’s top hitter was Justin Bailey with two hits and one RBI
*  brother Ryan Bailey had an RBI hit as well – Tryston Runyon had a hit and run scored
*  the Tigers are now 18&5 and finish in the LIC with a mark of 9&2
*  Olney will host the Tiger Classic with three games tomorrow starting at 10:00 in the morning
*  the other teams coming to Millspaugh Field are Harrisburg and Mt. Zion

(NOBLE)  the Midland Trail Conference Softball Tournament is scheduled to end today in Noble  :
*  the Tournament’s four quarter-final games were this past Wednesday
    *  3rd-seeded Noble / Clay City beat 6th-seeded Cisne, 4-2
    *  top-seeded Wayne City beat 9th-seeded Sandoval, 10-0
    *  2nd-seeded Woodlawn beat 7th-seeded Grayville, 10-0
    *  5th-seeded Waltonville beat 4th-seeded Odin, 17-6
*  today's semi-final games will be played at 4:00 at two sites in Noble
    *  Noble / Clay City plays Woodlawn at the High School
    *  Wayne City plays Waltonville at the Noble Village Park
*  the Tournament’s final two games will start at around 6:00 this evening
    *  the third place game at the High School and the Championship game at the Village Park

(OLNEY)  the Ladies Fastpitch Softball “League of Our Own” in Olney will have an informational meeting on Saturday morning, June 1st, at Ophelia’s Cup in Olney, starting at 10:00 – the League is looking for teams for the upcoming season, which is scheduled to start July 1st and continue thru the season-ending League Tournament set for the first week of October, with all games to be played in Musgrove Park – all players must be a freshmen in high school or older – the League is a part of the Richland County Athletic Association, a strictly non-profit organization – for details, call Ed at 618-837-0662 or 618-838-1522

 

(OLNEY)  East Richland High School is offering sports physicals for the 2013-2014 school year in the ERHS Nurse’s Office – for boys, next Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00, conducted by Dr. Bradley Houston  :  forms must be completed and signed by a parent before the student can receive an exam
