Thursday  :  the Cardinals won their third game in a row with a victory over the Brewers, 6-5
Thursday  :  the Cubs lost to the Padres  :  the White Sox beat the Rangers  :  the Reds were idle
Friday  :  the Cardinals play game two of a four game series against the Brewers in Milwaukee
Friday  :  the Cubs host the Reds at Wrigley Field today  :  the White Sox are in Kansas City tonight

 

(OLNEY)  in junior college baseball yesterday – OCC swept a Region 24 doubleheader at Shawnee  :
*  the Blue Knights took two from Shawnee, 14-5 and 4-0
*  OCC’s winning pitchers were A.J. Maroni (now 6&2) and John Robert Patterson (now4&2)
*  the top hitter was Matt McGowan with five hits and three RBI – Kollin Dowty had four hits and four RBI
*  also at the plate for OCC – Joe Hunt and Logan Marshall had two hits apiece
*  the Blue Knights are 37&13 on the year – today’s game with Shawnee is postponed until Sunday at 1:00

 

(OLNEY)  in girls high school soccer yesterday – Olney won its final regular season match at home  :
*  the Lady Tigers beat Salem, 2-0 in the varsity match – the junior varsity teams played to a 1-1 tie
*  the Olney goals were scored by Lexie Erwin, assisted by Lexy Grundon, and by Kylar Craig unassisted
*  others who played well in the Lady Tiger victory were Kiersten Dunlap and Taylor Milburn
*  the three seniors were recognized  :  Lucy Berlanga & Lexy Grundon of Olney  :  Rachel Judy of Noble
*  the Lady Tigers begin Class 1A Regional action next Wednesday night when they’ll host Massac County

*  the Tigers beat Dieterich, 9-2 as host Olney outhit the visiting Movin’ Maroons, 9 to 7
*  Olney’s winning pitcher was Tyler Zuber, allowing one earned run and striking out three
*  top hitter was Nolan Shan with three hits and two RBI
*  Tryston Runyon and Ryan Bailey each had two hits, combing for five RBI
*   improving to 17&3 overall, the Tigers will finish their LIC schedule Monday at Casey-Westfield

*  the Lady Tigers beat Paris, 7-0 in an evening game in Musgrove Park – Olney outhit Paris, 11 to 2
*  Elizabeth Walker was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs, only two hits, while striking out seven
*  Olney’s top hitter was Mackenzie Sechrest with three hits and two runs scored
*  Rachel Wisner had two hits, including another home run and three RBI
*  now at 18&10 on the year, the Lady Tigers are in LIC action Monday at Casey-Westfield

*  the Lady Eagles beat Hutsonville-Palestine, 11-6

*  the Eagles lost to Hutsonville-Palestine, 4-12 as the visiting Tigers outhit Newton, 9 to 3
*  for Newton – Caleb Chesnut had a hit and two RBI
*  Newton’s Allen Taylor and Derrek Schackmann each had a hit and one RBI as well
*  the Eagles are back in action next Monday at home against the Pirates of Cumberland High School

(GREENUP)  in boys and girls high school track – yesterday’s Little Illini Conference Track Meet was interrupted by rain several times, and eventually called off – all the teams will return to Cumberland High School on Monday of next week to finish up the conference meets for both boys and girls, starting at 4:30

 

(OLNEY)  today’s opening round of the NJCAA Softball Region 24 Tournament has been cancelled  :
*  the double elimination event with the Region 24 top four teams has been postponed until tomorrow
    *  the 4th-seeded Lady Knights open up at 10:00 in morning against top-seeded Lake Land
    *  2nd-seeded Wabash Valley will play 3rd-seeded John A. Logan in the 12:00 noon game
    *  the first two losing teams play in the first elimination round game at 2:00
    *  the two winning teams will play in the day’s fourth and final game at 4:00
    *  then games on Sunday at 11:00 and 1:00, followed by a 3:00 game, if needed

(OLNEY)  the Red Hill High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host a fundraising 4-on-4 Basketball Tournament in the Red Hill Junior / Senior High School Gyms tomorrow morning, starting at 8:00 – along with games, there will be plenty of fun, food, t-shirts, and raffle prizes – all proceeds will go toward Brain Tumor Research in memory of Melissa Fiscus who passed away in 2009 from a brain tumor – free will donations accepted at the door – all are invited – call Red Hill High School for details

*  the day's top hitter was Troy Paris with five hits and six RBI

*  Olney Justin Bailey was the winning pitcher, giving up only one earned run and striking out four

Saturday & Sunday  :  the Cubs split two  :  the White Sox lost two  :  the Reds split two
Monday  :  the Cardinals begin a series at home against the Reds – first of three is tonight
Monday  :  the Cubs host San Diego tonight  :  the White Sox are idle until tomorrow night

 

(OLNEY)  in high school softball Saturday – Carbondale won the Robinson Softball Tournament  :
*  Carbondale beat Robinson in the title game, 5-3 after pool play wins over Olney, Neoga, & Red Hill
*  Red Hill won the third place game over Neoga, 12-3
*  Effingham won the fifth place game by beating Hutsonville-Palestine, 12-1
*  the Olney Lady Tigers three close games, each game by two runs or less
    *  Olney lost to Carbondale, 6-7  :  lost to Red Hill, 2-4  :  and lost to Effingham, 4-6
*  during the day, Rachel Wisner and Peyton Stuck each had four hits, while Wisner had five RBI
*  now at 16&9 on the year, Olney and it’s 6&3 LIC record go west to play at Flora this afternoon

(OLNEY)  the Red Hill High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host a fundraising 4-on-4 Basketball Tournament in the Red Hill Junior / Senior High School Gyms on Saturday morning, May 4th, starting at 8:00 – along with games, there will be plenty of fun, food, t-shirts, and raffle prizes – all proceeds will go toward Brain Tumor Research in memory of Melissa Fiscus who passed away in 2009 from a brain tumor – free will donations accepted at the door – all are invited – call Red Hill High School for details

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney Central College Foundation will host its 12th annual “Golf Outing” this Friday, May 3rd, at the Richland Country Club in Olney – lunch will be served at 11:30 with tee-off at 1:00 – the event includes 18 holes of golf in a scramble format with an entry fee of $60 per person – call OCC today
