(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball last night – Olney swept two from Salem  :  the Tigers won the varsity game, 43-39 led by Brook Pampe’s 25 points, while Michael Fehrenbacher & Joel Eagleson teamed up for 15 points – Olney improves to 21&2 overall, still undefeated in the Apollo, now at 8&0  :  Olney also won the junior varsity game, 60-48  :  the Tigers are back in action next Tuesday night hosting Paris

 

(OLNEY)  in girls high school basketball last night – Olney dropped two to Salem  :  the Lady Tigers lost the varsity game, 45-38 despite 13 points from Kelsey Shipman, plus 13 combined points from Heather Ernst & Gina Volk – Olney drops to 16&11 overall, now 10&2 in the Apollo  :  Salem also won the junior varsity game, 56-46  :  the Lady Tigers are back in action Monday night at ERHS hosting Paris

 

(NEWTON)  in boys high school basketball last night – Newton split two with Paris  :  the Eagles won the varsity game, 73-42 led in scoring by Elijah Knepper with 18 points, Peyton Wyatt with 17 points, & Dylan Davidson with 14 points – Newton improves to 16&3 overall, now 5&3 in the Apollo  :  Paris won the jv game, 57-55  :  the Eagles are back in action Monday night with a rescheduled game at Casey-Westfield

(OLNEY)  in boys junior high hoops last night – Olney St Joe won the Class S Regional down at West Salem, beating the host team, 54-44 – now at 22&1 on the year, the Wildcats now head to the downstate Class S State Tournament at Rend Lake College, where they’ll play in a 2:30 first round game


 
(OLNEY)  in girls junior high basketball – Olney St Joe returns to the downstate Class S State Tournament at Rend Lake College for the 12:30 third place game this afternoon – the Lady Wildcats are 18&8 overall 

 

(CLAY CITY)  the 6th Grade Tournament continues tomorrow morning at the Clay City Schools  :
* the four winner’s bracket games involve Olney St Joe, North Clay, South Central, & Clay City
* the 3 consolation bracket games involve Flora, Albion, Cisne, & Noble – the first games start at 9:30

 

(OLNEY)  the Boys 7th Grade Junior NEC Tournament will end with the final three games today at the Middle School in Olney  :  Carmi plays Mt Carmel for the consolation title at 9:30  :  Olney plays Flora in the third place game at 10:45  :  and it’s Salem against Fairfield in the championship game at 12 noon

 

(NEWTON)  the Apollo Conference Girls Fresh/Soph Tournament begins this morning at two sites  :
* Effingham, Olney, Salem, & Newton all play at the schools in Newton with the first games at 10:00
* Paris, Charleston, & Mt Zion all play at the Robinson High School in a round robin format
* the finals will be played a week from today in Effingham

 

(NEWTON)  in girls high basketball – the Newton Lady Eagles will host Salem in an Apollo Conference rescheduled game from a couple of weeks ago – it’s a varsity game only at NCHS with game time at 4:30

 

(OLNEY)  in junior college basketball – it’s another full schedule in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference  :  the OCC teams are on the road to Robinson to face Lincoln Trail College with the Lady Knights playing at 2:00 and the Blue Knights at 4:00  :  the other GRAC matchups are Kaskaskia at Southeastern Illinois, Lake Land at Rend Lake, and Southwestern Illinois at John A Logan  :  Wabash Valley has a bye night

 

(NEWTON)  in mens college basketball – Illinois tries to get back into the win column tonight as they’re at Minnesota for a Big Ten battle against the Golden Gophers – the Fighting Illini enter with an overall record of 15&5, now 4&3 in the Big Ten, Minnesota comes in at 15&6 on the year, now 3&5 in the Big Ten

(NEWTON)  in girls high school basketball last night – Newton swept two from Paris  :  the Lady Eagles won the varsity game, 63-58 – Newton was led by Carly Niebrugge’s 18 points, while Morgan Swingler added 14 points – the varsity is now 13&9 overall, now 5&6 in the Apollo  :  Newton also won the junior varsity game, 46-41 in overtime  :  the Lady Eagles are back at home Monday night to host Robinson

(NOBLE)  in girls high school basketball last night – in the Midland Trail Conference – Wayne City took two from Noble / Clay City  :  the host Lady Indians won the varsity game, 53-35 – the Lady Wildcats were led in scoring by Erin Taylor’s 15 points & Amber Drewes with 8 points – the NCC Ladies drop to 6&14 on the year  :  Wayne City also won the junior varsity game, 29-12  :  Noble / Clay City will have its final home game of the year next Monday night with a varsity-only game against South Central at WRHS

* in boys’ action at Red Hill High School in Bridgeport  :  fourth-seeded Oblong won the consolation championship game with a 65-59 win over ninth-seeded Edwards County  :  fifth-seeded Hutsonville-Palestine won the third place game with a 69-61 victory over third-seeded Casey-Westfield
* in girls’ action at the Lawrenceville High School  :  third-seeded Cumberland won the consolation championship game with a 45-25 win over seventh-seeded Oblong  :  fourth-seeded Red Hill won the third place game with a 53-43 victory over second-seeded Flora
* the two tournaments will have their final two games tonight at the Red Hill High School  :  top-seeded Marshall will play sixth-seeded Lawrenceville in the girls championship game at 6:00  :  top-seeded Flora will play second-seeded Marshall in the boys championship game tonight at 8:00

* Class 3A Regional @ Marshall  :  Marshall beat Teutopolis in the championship game, 33-30
* the Regional winners move on to Sectional play next Thursday night
* meanwhile, the IESA 8th Grade Regionals will begin with quarter-final round games tomorrow

* Class S @ Rend Lake College  :  Olney St Joe lost its semi-final game last night, falling to Germantown, 42-15 – while the Lady Wildcats drop back to 18&8 on the year, they’ll play in tomorrow’s third place game at 12:30 again Jefferson – that’s all at the downstate Class S State Tournament at Rend Lake College

* Class S @ West Salem  :  Olney St Joe had a semi-final win last night against New Hebron, 54-14 – while the Wildcats improve to 21&1 on the year, the St Joe boys will play tonight in the regional championship game against West Salem at 6:30 – the winner moves on to the downstate Class S State Tournament

 

(OLNEY)  also in boys junior high hoops – Olney split two with Mt Carmel  :  the Cubs lost the 8th grade game, 55-46 – the varsity is now 5&14  :  Olney won the 7th grade game, 50-33 – the jv squad is 10&10

* the OCC men lost to Wabash Valley, 64-58 as the Blue Knights fall to 16&3, now 6&1 in the GRAC – Latroi Wright led OCC with 14 points – Noah Stewart, P.J. Alson, & Trivante Bloodman each had 8 points
* the OCC women lost to Wabash Valley, 78-63 as the Lady Knights drop back to 13&7 overall, now 3&4 in the GRAC – Tara Wornica led OCC with 20 points – Kelsee Innis & Alyssa Like teamed up for 28 points
* the OCC teams are back in action this Saturday night, traveling to Lincoln Trail College in Robinson

(OLNEY)  in girls high school basketball last night – Olney swept two from Charleston  :  the Lady Tigers won the varsity game, 51-48 led by Heather Ernst with 23 points & Marley Miller with 13 – the varsity is now 16&10 overall, 10&1 in the Apollo  :  Olney also won the junior varsity game, 51-22  :  the Lady Tigers return to action Friday night during the “mega night” Apollo event at Salem


 
(NEWTON)  in girls high school basketball last night – Newton beat Mt Zion, 55-45 in Apollo Conference action – the Lady Eagles were led by Amy Koebele’s 26 points, while Megan Jansen added 9 points – the Lady Eagles varsity improves to 12&9, now 4&6 in the Apollo – Newton’s plays Thursday night at Paris

 

(OLNEY)  also in the Apollo last night  :  Salem beat Robinson, 48-25  :  Effingham beat Paris, 54-31

 

(NOBLE)  in girls high school basketball last night – Noble / Clay City dropped a pair of games to Christ Our Rock Lutheran  :  the visiting Stallions won the varsity game, 61-37 - Erin Taylor and Amber Drewes combined for 20 points to leady Noble / Clay City – the Lady Wildcats fall back to 6&12 on the year  :  CORL also won the jv game, 34-21  :  the NCC Ladies are in MTC action tonight, hosting Woodlawn, during “senior night” at West Richland High School in Noble - it's a varsity game only, starting at 6:15

 

(NEWTON)  in other girls games last night  :  Sandoval beat Cisne, 67-51  :  Effingham St Anthony beat South Central, 53-19  :  Woodlawn beat Webber, 56-37  :  North Clay beat Dieterich, 64-42  :  Teutopolis beat Mattoon, 57-29  :  Cowden-Herrick / Beecher City beat Neoga, 63-38

* in boys’ action at Red Hill High School in Bridgeport  :  Lawrenceville eliminated Cumberland, 51-48
* in girls’ action at the Lawrenceville High School  :  Oblong eliminated Edwards County, 53-19 
* the boys’ tournament continues with semi-final games tonight in Bridgeport  :  top-seeded Flora plays fifth-seeded Hutsonville-Palestine at 6:00  :  second-seeded Marshall plays third-seeded Casey-Westfield at 7:30 
* the girls’ tournament continues with semi-final games tonight in Lawrenceville  :  top-seeded Marshall plays fourth-seeded Red Hill at 6:00  :  sixth-seeded Lawrenceville plays second-seeded Flora at 7:30

(OLNEY)  in boys high school wrestling from last Thursday, during “senior night” at ERHS  :
* Olney won the varsity match by a slim 34-33 margin over visiting Carmi-White County
* the Tigers won 8 of the 14 matches – the winning Tigers were Chris Wood, Aaron Foerster, Jake Schmitt, Steven Burgener, Jesse Jared, Colton Carmody, Derek Novak, and Jacob Cecil
* Olney also won three of the six jv matches – winners were Doug Muhs, Levi Slover, and Gus Lathrop
* Tiger seniors, Derek Novak, Jesse Jared, & Steven Burgener were recognized for their dedication


 
(OLNEY)  also in wrestling news – the Oney Cubs took 13 wrestlers to Hillsboro this past Sunday  :
* Kyle Beasley came home with his third tournament championship & is still undefeated on the season
* Zach Shoulders & Logan Harmon both had second place finishes
* the Olney Wrestling Cubs are back in action this coming Sunday down at Mt Vernon


 
(NEWTON)  in junior high volleyball from last Thursday – Newton Jasper County took two matches from Altamont – NewtonJasper County won both varsity & junior varsity matches in two games each, 25-13 & 25-18, 25-14 & 25-11 – theJasper County girls are back in action today hosting Oblong this afternoon

 

(OLNEY)  in boys junior high basketball last night – Olney split two games with North Clay  :  the Indians won the 8th grade game, 40-39 as the Cubs varsity is now 5&13 on the year  :  Olney won the 7th grade game, 46-26 as the jv squad improves to 9&10  :  the Cubs play again tomorrow night hosting Mt Carmel
