(NEWTON) the IESA Boys 7th Grade State Tournaments started Saturday – here’s some area results : * Class 1A : Pana Sacred Heart beat Hartsburg-Emden in first round action, 33-32 : Pana Sacred Heart then lost its semi-final game to Bartonville Monroe, 47-27 : now at 17&5 on the year, the St. Pats will play Metamora St Mary’s in the third place game on Thursday night * Class 1A : Sigel St Michael’s beat Joliet Laraway in first round action, 39-30 : Sigel St Michael’s then won its semi-final game over Metamora St Mary’s, 50-37 : so now at 20&1, the Sharpshooters will play Bartonville Monroe in the Class 1A Championship game on Thursday night * Class 2A : Altamont lost its first round game to Springfield Blessed Sacrament, 61-47 : the Wildcats were eliminated from the State Tournament and finish the year at 20&2 * Class 3A : Marshall won its first round game over Morris Shabbona, 41-29 : Marshall then lost its first game of the year, in the semi-final game against South Holland McKinley, 31-28 : now at 25&1, the Cubs will play Tremont in the third place game on Thursday night * Class 3A : Pana lost its first round game to Tremont, 43-30 : the Junior Panthers finish the year at 18&8
(OLNEY) the SIJHSAA Boys Class S State Tournament began with first round action Saturday : * Olney St Joe beat Jasper (Wayne County), 36-33 as the Wildcats improve to 23&1 – the St Joe boys move into quarter-final action at 6:00 this evening, back down at Rend Lake College, as they play Lick Creek * other results involving area teams : Germantown eliminated Altamont Lutheran from the tournament with a 46-40 score : it was Woodlawn over St John / Chester, 61-20 * with the quarter-finals tonight, the semi-finals are Thursday and the finals on Saturday

(OLNEY) the OCC Lady Blue Knights softball team will host a Softball Clinic this coming Sunday afternoon, February 12th, from 1:00 to 3:00, in the OCC Gym – it’s a total skills camp for girls ages 6 to 12 at the cost of $30 per player, due that afternoon – all participants should bring their own softball gloves, bats, and tennis shoes – to pre-register, contact Coach Nick Short at OCC by calling 618-395-7777
