(OLNEY)  in mens college basketball yesterday – Illinois lost its second straight Big Ten game, falling to Wisconsin, 67-63 – it’s the second consecutive upset handed to the Illini after they upset then #5 Ohio State nearly two weeks ago – Illinois falls to 15&5 overall, now 4&3 in the Big Ten, the Badgers are 16&5 on the year, now 5&3 in the league – the Illini return to conference action at Minnesota this Saturday night


 
(OLNEY)  in junior college basketball Saturday night – the OCC teams swept a GRAC doubleheader
* the Blue Knights beat Kaskaskia, 88-71 improving to 16&2, still undefeated in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference at 6&0 – Lleon Tillman led OCC with 21 points, while Ryan Helfert added 19 points
* the Lady Knights beat Kaskaskia, 85-72 improving to 17&6, now 3&3 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference – Tara Wornica led the Lady Knights with 23 points, while Bre White added 14 points
* the OCC teams are back in action on Wednesday night, traveling to Wabash Valley, down in Mt Carmel

 
(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball on Saturday – Olney won the championship game of the Carmi Invitational as the Tigers beat Harrisburg, 48-45 – Brook Pampe’s 22 points led Olney to improve to 20&2 – Michael Fehrenbacher was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, while teammate Brook Pampe was also selected to the All Tournament Team – in the other games  :  Fairfield finished third with a 55-47 win over Carmi  :  Mt Carmel ended up in fourth place with a 66-64 win over Mt Vernon, Indiana

 

(NEWTON)  in boys high school hoops Saturday – at the Midland Trail Conference Tournament finals  :  Woodlawn won the title game with a 62-39 victory over North Clay  :  South Central won the third place game over Cisne, 43-31  :  Wayne City beat Sandoval in the consolation championship game, 64-62

(OLNEY)  in girls high school basketball on Saturday – at the Highland Tournament finals  :  Edwardsville won the title game over Nashville, 41-27  :  Breese Central won the third place game over Breese Mater Dei, 44-37  :  Teutopolis beat Cowden-Herrick / Beecher City in the fifth place game, 59-54  :  and it was Belleville Althoff beating Highland in the consolation championship game, 59-51


 
(OLNEY)  in girls junior high basketball on Saturday – at the Class S State Tournament down at Rend Lake College – Olney St Joe won it’s opening round quarter-final game over Pinckneyville, 36-21 led by Julie Luna & Kylar Craig– now at 18&7 on the year, the Lady Wildcats return to Rend Lake College Thursday night for a 6:00 semi-final matchup against Germantown – the downstate Girls Class S Finals are Saturday


 
(OLNEY)  in boys junior high basketball – two Olney / St Joe teams played in respective championship games yesterday at the Diocesan Tournament  :  the 8th grade Wildcats won their championship game over St James Millstadt, 45-32  :  the 6th grade Wildcats lost their title game to St Mary's Chester, 39-31  :  now at 20&1, the St Joe varsity begins Class S Regional action this coming Thursday night at West Salem

 

(OLNEY)  in boys 7th grade basketball – at the Junior NEC Tournament in Salem  :  in first round action – Olney beat Carmi, 40-23 and Fairfield beat Mt Carmel, 31-23  :  in the semi-final games – Salem beat Olney, 42-29 and Fairfield upset Flora, 34-28  :  the final three games will be this Saturday at the Middle School in Olney – the host Cubs will face Flora in the third place game at 10:15 – the other games have Carmi against Mt Carmel for fifth place at 9:30 – then Salem against Fairfield in the title game at 12 noon


 
(NEWTON)  in girls high school basketball – it’s back to a full schedule tonight in the Apollo Conference  :  the Newton Lady Eagles are on the road to Mt Zion with a single varsity game set to start at 6:00, earlier than normal  :  Olney travels to Charleston  :  elsewhere, it’s Salem at Robinson & Effingham at Paris

(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball last night – at the Carmi Invitational Tournament  :  Olney beat Fairfield, 53-25 – the Tigers were led by Brook Pampe’s 22 points – Olney improves to 19&2 on the year & will be in the tournament’s final game tonight at 8:30 against Harrisburg  :  in last night’s other games – Mt Carmel beat Carmi, 70-60 – it was Harrisburg over Mt Vernon, Indiana, 69-61  :  first game tonight at 5:30

 

(NEWTON)  in boys high school basketball last night – the Newton at Casey-Westfield non-conference games were cancelled, due to bad road & weather conditions – several other games to our north were also cancelled last night with information about any rescheduling not available at this particular time

 

(SALEM)  in boys high school hoops – one of the two games at the Salem Invitational was played last night as Edwardsville slipped by Centralia, 40-36 – the second game between the host Wildcats and Mattoon was postponed until 11:00 this morning – the tournament’s two consolation quarter-finals are this afternoon with Effingham against Marion at 12:30 and Mt Vernon against Troy Triad at 2:00 – the trophy games are later tonight with the consolation championship at 6:00, third place at 7:30, and the championship game at 9:00


 
(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball – the Midland Trail Conference Tournament had it’s games cancelled last night & rescheduled for today with the final three games at North Clay High School in Louisville  :  Sandoval plays Wayne City in the consolation championship game at 1:00 this afternoon  :  South Central goes up against Cisne in the third place game at 3:00 this afternoon  :  then tonight’s championship game at 7:30 has top-seeded Woodlawn against 6th seeded North Clay / Louisville

(NEWTON)  in men’s college basketball last night – Illinois lost a tough road battle at Penn State, 54-52 – while only the second Big Ten win of the year for the Nittany Lions, now at 2&5 in the conference, the Illini drop to 4&2 in the league, now 15&4 overall – Illinois now prepares to host Wisconsin Sunday afternoon

 

(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball last night – at the Carmi Invitational Tournament  :  Olney beat the host Bulldogs, 65-38 – Michael Fehrenbacher, Brook Pampe, & Mason Phillips combined for 40 points as the Tigers improve to 18&2 on the year – Olney will play Fairfield tonight in the early game at 5:30  :  in the other two games last night – Harrisburg beat Mt Carmel, 74-40 and Fairfield beat Mt Vernon, 54-52  :  the tournament continues with three more games tonight, before the three final games tomorrow night


 
(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball last night – at the Midland Trail Conference Tournament  :  in the winner’s bracket semi-finals – Woodlawn beat South Central, 44-30 and North Clay beat Cisne in overtime, 63-58  :  two of the final three games are tonight at North Clay High in Louisville as Wayne City plays Sandoval for the consolation championship at 6:30, then Cisne faces South Central in the third place game at 8:00 – tomorrow night’s championship game has top-seeded Woodlawn against 6th seeded North Clay

(NEWTON)  in girls high school hoops last night – Newton beat Lawrenceville, 55-16 – in a varsity game only, the Lady Eagles were led in scoring by Amy Koebele with 21 points, while Carly Niebrugge added 9 points – Newton improves to 11&9 overall – they’ll return to Apollo action Monday, traveling to Mt Zion


 
(NOBLE)  in girls high school basketball last night – Cisne beat Noble / Clay City, 32-28 – the Lady Wildcats were led in scoring by Amber Drewes with 12 points – NCC is now 6&11 on the year

 

(OLNEY)  in girls high school basketball last night – at the Highland Tournament  :  Nashville beat Breese Mater Dei, 49-35 in a winner’s bracket semi-final  :  Cowden-Herrick / Beecher City eliminated Salem with a 57-48 win in a 5th place semi-final game, while Teutopolis beat Carlyle, 58-37 in the other  :  the final four trophy games will be played tomorrow at 10:00, 11:30, 1:00, and 2:30, all at Highland High School

(OLNEY)  in boys junior high basketball last night – Olney St Joe split a pair of games with Sigel St Michael’s  :  the Wildcats won the 8th grade game, 48-21 as the varsity improves to 17&1 on the year  :  Sigel St Michael’s won the 7th grade game, 43-13  :  the St Joe varsity squad now prepares to play this weekend in the Diocesan Tournament out in Red Bud – the Wildcats are the #2 seed out of the nine teams taking part – St Joe’s opening round game is tonight at 7:30 against St Mary’s Mt Carmel


 
(OLNEY)  the Richland County Men's 4-on-4 Basketball League continued with three more games last night  :  in a battle of first place teams – Berryville Vineyard beat Repeat or Bust, 59-57  :  The Salukis beat The Bulls, 105-71  :  and Friday Nite Lites beat The Redbirds, 90-44  :  it’s back to action next Monday night at the Claremont Recreation Center with the first of three games to start at 6:30

* the Blue Knights beat Southwestern Illinois, 68-61 as OCC improves to 5&0 in the conference, now 15&2 on the year – OCC was led in scoring by Ryan Helfert with 18 points – Trivante Bloodman added 14
* the Lady Knights lost to Southwestern, 73-55 as the OCC Ladies fall to 16&6 overall, now 2&3 in the GRAC – the top Lady Knights’ scorer was Kelsee Ennis with 18 points
* the OCC teams will host Kaskaskia with doubleheader action this coming Saturday night in the OCC Gym


 
(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball last night – at the Midland Trail Conference Tournament in Louisville  :  Odin won the 9th place game by beating Webber Township, 61-48  :  in the consolation bracket semi-finals – Wayne City beat Grayville, 52-38 – Sandoval beat Clay City / Noble, 67-51  :  the tournament continues with the winner’s bracket semi-finals tonight – Woodlawn against South Central at 6:30 & Cisne against North Clay / Louisville at 8:00  :  the consolation championship and third place games are tomorrow night at 6:30 and 8:00, with the championship game Saturday night, all at North Clay High in Louisville

* the Tigers lost to Argenta-Oreana, 66-12

* the Tigers lost to Decatur MacArthur, 51-30                 
* the Tigers lost to Cumberland, 50-26
* the Tigers beat Hoopeston Area, 54-28
* Olney’s top wrestlers were Jacob Cecil, Colton Carmody, Mitchell Harmon, & Corben Roth, all of whom had three wins & two losses on the day in their respective weight classes
* Olney’s Steven Burgener & Jake Schmitt each had two wins and three losses on the day in their classes
* Derek Novak, Nic Waxler, Jesse Jared, Colyn Fuson, Nick Napier, & Aaron Foster had one win each
* the Tigers are now 8&7 on the year in high school wrestling

(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball – the Carmi-White County Invitational Tournament continues with three more games tonight – it’s Mt Carmel & Harrisburg at 5:30 – Olney & the host Bulldogs at 7:00 – then Mt Vernon & Fairfield at 8:30 – the tournament has 3 games each tomorrow night & Saturday night

 
 
(NEWTON)  in girls high school basketball – it’s back to non-conference action for Newton – the Lady Eagles are at home to host Lawrenceville – it will be a varsity game only tonight at NCHS with game time set for 6:30  :  in Midland Trail Conference action tonight – the Noble / Clay City Lady Wildcats travel to Cisne for an earlier than normal start at 5:30, instead of 6:15 – that’s also a varsity game only at Cisne


 
(OLNEY)  in men's college basketball – Illinois returns to action tonight after an eight day break, on the road at Penn State for an 8:00 tipoff – the Fighting Illini enter atop the conference standings with a Big Ten record of 4&1, followed by Michigan at 5&2, then Ohio State, Michigan State, & Purdue, all at 4&2 – the Nitany Lions are tied for last in the league at 1&5 – overall, Illinois is 15&3 and Penn State is 9&10

(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball last night – at the Carmi Invitational Tournament – Olney won again, with a 63-39 win over Mt Vernon, Indiana – Michael Fehrenbacher led all scorers with 21 points, while Joel Eagleson & Brook Pampe combined for 33 points – the Tigers improve to 17&2 on the year – Olney plays game three of the five game tournament tomorrow night at 7:00  :  other games last night had Fairfield over Mt Carmel, 53-50 and Harrisburg beat Carmi, 68-34 – the action resumes tomorrow night

 

(NEWTON)  in boys high school basketball last night – Newton split a pair of non-conference games at Effingham St Anthony  :  the Eagles won the varsity game, 69-55 – Newton was led by Peyton Wyatt with 39 points, while Lucas Stone added 14 – the Eagles improve to 15&3 on the year  :  St Anthony won the junior varsity game, 57-53  :  the Eagles are back in non-conference action Friday night at Casey-Westfield

(OLNEY)  in girls high school hoops last night – Olney split a pair of frosh games with Teutopolis  :  Olney won the second game, 20-8 while Teutopolis took the first game, 35-32

 

(OLNEY)  in girls junior high basketball last night – Olney St Joe won the Class S Regional Championship with a close 25-23 victory over Jasper – the Lady Wildcats move into the downstate Class S State Tournament with a first round 3:45 Saturday afternoon game against Pinckneyville at Rend Lake College

 

(OLNEY)  in boys junior high hoops last night – Olney dropped two to North Knox, Indiana  :  the Cubs lost the 8th grade game, 55-47 – the varsity falls to 5&12 on the year  :  North Knox won a close 7th grade game, 45-42 as the Cubs jv squad falls to 7&9  :  Olney will play at Red Hill tomorrow night

 

(NEWTON)  in junior high volleyball from last Friday – Newton Jasper County split a pair of matches with Stewardson-Strasburg  :  the Junior Lady Eagles won the 7th grade match in two games while Stew-Stras won the 8th grade match in three games  :  the Newton Jasper County girls will host Altamont tomorrow

 

(OLNEY)  in junior college basketball – the Olney Central College teams are at home for another GRAC doubleheader as Southwestern Illinois comes to town – the Lady Knights will try to improve on their 2&2 conference mark with a 5:30 tipoff – the Blue Knights look to stay undefeated with their 4&0 conference mark with a 7:30 tip  :  the other Great Rivers Athletic Conference matchups on this Wednesday night have Southeastern Illinois at Lake Land, Lincoln Trail at Kaskaskia, and Wabash Valley at John A Logan
