(NEWTON)  in boys junior high basketball from Monday night – Newton Jasper County dropped two at Robinson  :  the Junior Eagles lost the 8th grade game, 29-14  :  Robinson won the 7th grade game, 50-33  :  the Newton Jasper County squad returns to action in the new year on January 3rd

 

(OLNEY)  in junior high wrestling from this past Sunday – the Olney Cubs took 23 wrestlers to the Cumberland County Tournament and came home with three tournament champions  :  Kitch St. Pierre, Noah Eagleson, & Kyle Beasley  :  Nathan DeMeyer brought home a 2nd place finish  :  plus Josh Hartleroad, Logan Harmon, & Luke Doan all finished 3rd  :  congrats to the Olney Wrestling Cubs

 

(OLNEY)  in action this past Monday in the Richland County Mens 4-on-4 Basketball League  :  The Salukis upset previously unbeaten Repeat or Bust, 71-70 on a buzzer-beater  :  FNL beat The Zoolanders, 88-67  :  Berryville beat The Bulls, 98-30  :  the League is off until after the first of the new year

(OLNEY)  the Richland County Athletic Association is looking for teams or players to take part in an upcoming “Dodgeball League” which begins with action on Tuesday, January 10th at the Calhoun Civic Center – in fact, the League will run each & every Tuesday evening thru March 13th – for details or to signup, call Ed at 618-837-0662 – the RCAA is a non-profit organization and all are invited to help out


 
(OLNEY)  the Richland County Men;s 4-on-4 Basketball League will host a fundraising “Three-on-Three Mid-Season Basketball Tournament” on Saturday, January 7th, at the Claremont Recreation Center – the entry fee is $30 per team – to signup or for more information, call the Richland County Athletic Association at 618-837-0662 – the League is a non-profit organization will games every Monday and Thursday

(OLNEY)  in mens’ college basketball last night – Illinois slipped by Cornell, 64-60 as the Illini improve to 11&1 on the year – Meyers Leonard of Robinson led as players with 19 points and 16 rebounds – Illinois now prepares to face Missouri in Thursday night’s “Braggin Rights” game in St. Louis

 

(NEWTON)  in girls high school basketball last night – Newton split a pair of games at Charleston  :  the Lady Eagles won the varsity game, 38-31 led by Amy Koebele’s 13 points – Megan Jansen, Morgan Swingler, & Carly Niebrugge each added 7 points apiece – the varsity is now 7&5 overall, 3&4 in the Apollo  :  Charleston won the jv game, 28-20  :  Newton plays next week at the Dieterich Tournament

 

(NOBLE)  in girls high school basketball last night – Noble / Clay City split two games with Oblong  :  the Lady Wildcats won the varsity game, 54-46 – Erin Taylor led the NCC Ladies with 16 points, while Deanna Michels added 9 points – the Lady Cats are now 4&5 on the year  :  Oblong won the junior varsity game by the score of 30-26  :  Noble / Clay City plays next week in the Red Hill Tournament over in Bridgeport

 

(OLNEY)  some other area girls scores last night  :  Wayne City beat Edwards County, 64-23  :  Mt Carmel beat Evansville Reitz, 48-32  :  Carmi beat Woodlawn, 65-55  :  Neoga beat Martinsville, 67-13  :  Sullivan beat Cumberland in overtime, 45-44  :  North Clay beat Sandoval, 62-58

 

(OLNEY)  in boys high school wrestling from last week – Olney beat Fairfield in a varsity match, 58-24 – the Tigers won ten of the fourteen matches, eight of the ten by pins, one by major decision, & the other by forfeit – the Olney winners included Chris Wood, Nick Napier, Tim Sturm, Mitchell Harmon, Jake Schmitt, Steven Burgener, Jesse Jared, Colton Carmody, Derek Novak, & Jacob Cecil, all in their respective classes

 

(OLNEY)  in boys high school wrestling from this past Saturday – Olney finished 14th of the 17 teams at the Cumberland Tournament up in Toledo – the Tigers’ best results included a fourth place finish by Colton Carmody in the 120 pound class and a sixth place finish by Mitchell Harmon in the 160 pound class – those with two wins & two losses on the day included Steven Burgener, Jake Schmitt, & Mitchell Harmon

(OLNEY)  in the NFL Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts are wineless no longer.  Dan Orlovsky threw one touchdown pass and the key block on an 80 yard TD run, leading the Colts to their first win of the season, 27-13 over Tennessee.  The Bengals over the St. Louis Rams 20-13 and the Seahawks over The Bears

 

(NEWTON)  in women's college volleyball from Saturday – Illinois finishes season as National Runner-up, losing to UCLA 3-1


 
(OLNEY)  in men’s college basketball from Saturday – Illinois lost its first game of the year, falling to UNLV, 64-48 at the United Center in Chicago – the Illini shot only 25% from the field and committed 15 turnovers in the non-conference loss – now at 10&1 on the year, number 19 Illinois will return to the Assembly Hall tonight to host Cornell in a 7:00 tipoff in Champaign


 
(OLNEY)  in girls high school basketball Saturday night – Olney lost at Mt. Carmel 54-40.  Marley Miller led the Lady Tigers with 10pts, Gina Volk had 8pts.  Olney won the JV game 55-35


 
(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball Saturday night at the annual Conrad Allen Holiday Tournament in Wayne City  : Crab Orchard won the Championship, 56-44 over Cisne  :  in the 3rd place game, Edwards County over Wayne City 55-53 in OT  :   in the 5th place game, Grayville over Clay City / Noble, 46-42  :   Jordan Brown from Clay City / Noble was named to All-Tourney Team

 
 
(NEWTON)  in girls high school hoops coming up tonight – there’s one Apollo Conference matchup as the Newton Lady Eagles travel to Baker Gym in Charleston to take on the Lady Trojans – it all starts with jv action at 6:15 – in the Apollo, the 2&3 Lady Eagles look to improve against winless Charleston

(OLNEY) in boys high school basketball last night – Olney swept two from Paris  :  the Tigers won the varsity game, 52-31 led by Joel Eagleson & Brook Pampe, each with 16 points – Olney remains unbeaten at 8&0 overall, now 4&0 in the Apollo  :  Olney also won the junior varsity game, 37-31 – now 2&2 overall

 

(NEWTON)  in boys high school basketball last night – Newton swept two at Robinson  :  the Eagles won the varsity game, 65-57 led by Peyton Wyatt’s 29 points while Dylan Davidson added 12 points – Newton is now 8&1 overall, 3&1 in the Apollo  :  the Eagles also won the junior varsity game, 43-33

(OLNEY)  in boys high school basketball at the Conrad Allen Holiday Tournament down in Wayne City last night  :  Clay City / Noble beat Patoka, 42-34  :  Grayville beat Webber, 62-47  :  Crab Orchard beat Edwards County, 53-25  :  Cisne beat the host Indians, 33-26  :  tonight’s final three games have Clay City / Noble against Grayville for 5th place, Wayne City against Edwards County for 3rd place, and Crab Orchard against Cisne in the championship game – that’s all tonight down at the Wayne City High School

(OLNEY)  in men’s college basketball this weekend – it’s back to Fighting Illini basketball this afternoon as the undefeated Illinois squad plays in Chicago against Nevada – Las Vegas at the United Center – Illinois will then return home to the Assembly Hall in Champaign to host Cornell on Monday night

(NEWTON)  in girls high school basketball last night – Newton dropped two at Robinson  :  the Lady Eagles lost the varsity game, 55-48 – Newton was led in scoring by Carly Niebrugge with 15 points and Gabby Zerrusen with 10 points – the Lady Eagles fall to 6&5 on the year, now 2&4 in the Apollo  :  Robinson also won the jv game, 42-28  :  Newton is on the road to Charleston next Monday night

 

(OLNEY)  in girls high school basketball last night – Olney swept two from Paris  :  the Lady Tigers won the varsity game, 50-44 led by Heather Ernst with 14 points and Jennifer Luna with 12 – Olney improves to 7&5 on the year, now 5&1 in the Apollo  :  Olney also won the junior varsity game, 38-36  :  the Lady Tigers are in non-conference action tomorrow night against the Lady Aces, down at Mt Carmel High

(OLNEY)  in boys junior high basketball last night – Olney St Joe took two from Clay City  :  the Wildcats won the 8th grade game, 53-27 ending the JMTC season with a perfect 10&0 unbeaten record and improving to 13&0, still undefeated on the year overall  :  St Joe also won the 7th grade game, 32-29

 

(OLNEY)  in girls junior high basketball last night – Olney St Joe split a pair of games with Jasper of Wayne County  :  the Lady Polecats won the 8th grade game, 31-30  :  St Joe won the jv game, 33-6

 

(NEWTON)  it’s back to a full schedule in the Apollo Conference for boys basketball tonight – the Newton Eagles are on the road to Robinson, while the Olney Tigers travel to Paris to battle the Tigers of Edgar County – elsewhere, it’s Salem at Charleston and Mt Zion at Effingham – all with jv action at 6:15 tonight
