ILLINOIS STATE NEWS BRIEF (01/19/2024)

(SPRINGFIELD) A $10 million matching grant from state taxpayer funds will allow cancer patients in downstate Illinois to get comprehensive cancer treatment closer to home without having to travel 50 to 100 miles. The money will be matched locally by the Southern Illinois Healthcare Cancer Center in Carterville for the expansion and modernization of the SIH Cancer Institute. Located adjacent to a wooded wildlife center, the project will ensure that downstate cancer patients have better and quicker access to life-saving care.

(SPRINGFIELD) A group of state lawmakers is joining forces with the State Manufacturers’ Association to address issues plaguing one of Illinois’ largest industries. The first-ever Illinois Manufacturing Caucus includes lawmakers from both parties as the group’s goal is to highlight the role manufacturing plays in the state’s economy, hopefully helping Illinois become more attractive for businesses, especially those outside of Illinois. The group’s first meeting will be during the upcoming spring legislative session in Springfield. The state’s manufacturing industry directly provides 650,000 jobs throughout Illinois.

(CHICAGO) While the Chicago Bears continue to consider locations for a new stadium complex, a new report has surfaced that the White Sox may be on the move as well. The Chicago Sun-Times says the team has its eye on a piece of undeveloped land near the South Loop with plans for a baseball-only stadium. The White Sox management has talked about moving out of Guaranteed Rate Field when the team’s lease expires after the 2029 season.
