YESTERDAY’S USDA ILLINOIS CROP PROGRESS REPORT

(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, there were 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork on average around the state last week. Illinois’ average temperature was 71.4 degrees last week, 2.4 degrees below normal. The statewide precipitation averaged only 0.06 inches last week, 0.85 inches below normal. As of Sunday, corn silking around the state was at 96% (compared to the 5-year average of 97%), corn in the dough stage was at 69% (compared to the 5-year average of 63%) and corn denting was at 18% (compared to the 5-year average of 10%). Soybeans blooming around the state was at 94% (compared to the 5-year average of 91%) and soybeans setting pods was at 84% (compared to the 5-year average of 69%). The conditions for both crops are still mostly in good to excellent condition in Illinois, at 77% for corn and 72% for soybeans. Farmers are reminded to stay safe out there.
