The statewide average temperature was 56.7 degrees last week, 6.0 degrees above normal. Illinois’ precipitation averaged 0.64 inches last week, 0.18 inches below normal. Corn harvested around the state as of Sunday was at 95% (compared to the 5-year average of 81%) and soybeans harvested also hit 95% (compared to the 5-year average of 87%). Winter wheat planted was at 92% (compared to the 5-year average of 87%) and winter wheat emerged was at 69% (compared to the 5-year average of 62%). Farmers in our downstate region report nearly all the local soybeans have been cut with a little over 90% of the local corn now shelled. All are urged to think “safety first” once the fall harvest resumes and finishes up in southeastern Illinois.
