(NEWTON) The man responsible for killing a Jasper County man has been sentenced to prison. The Jasper County State’s Attorney’s Office has announced that pursuant to an agreement presented to Jasper County Resident Judge Chad M. Miller this past Tuesday, 31 year old Paul “Scotty” Schoonover has been ordered to serve an entire 30 years sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections on the charge of First Degree Murder. Schoonover pleaded guilty to the murder of Jasper County resident 59 year old Terry Eastep in June of 2023. State’s Attorney James S. Treccia commended the Illinois State Police and the Newton Police Department for their thorough investigation leading to the arrest and conviction.
