MONDAY WEATHER DISCUSSION (01/20/2025)

(OLNEY/NEWTON) With less than a half inch of rain falling late last week and colder air moving into our downstate area yesterday, the frigid cold weather is here for at least the next 36 to 48 hours with high temperatures slightly into the teens today, but in only the single digits tomorrow, not to mention wind chill values around or below zero throughout the period. Slightly warmer air will return after a frontal boundary pushes through Illinois later today, bringing some flurries or light snow, mostly to our north. As the wind chills start to relax by tomorrow night, a southerly wind flow on Wednesday will start to deliver a little warmer air for the rest of the work week. With highs back into the upper 30’s or low 40’s for the upcoming weekend, our next chance of precipitation might be in the form of rain Saturday night into Sunday. Monitor a NOAA Weather Alert Radio for forecast details.

(LINCOLN) The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for most all of our downstate listening area from now through Tuesday night. With daily highs likely in the single digits today and tomorrow, wind chill values will hover around zero during the daylight hours and below zero at night. Both frostbite and hypothermia are possible for those planning to be outdoors for an extended length of time. Precautions should be taken for those planning to travel, especially at night, and appropriate clothing should be used.
