(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Legislation that would allow schools that participate in the federal school lunch program to serve whole and 2% milk is resurfacing in the House and Senate in Washington, D.C. Under current school meal nutrition standards, schools must offer a variety of at least two options of milk with breakfast and lunch, including flavored and unflavored, low fat, fat-free, and lactose-free milk. The House bill, still in committee, is co-sponsored by Illinois Representatives Mary Miller/Oakland and Mike Bost/Murphysboro.
