AMERICAN FARM BUREAU JOINS EPA’S EMMISSIONS LAWSUIT

(BLOOMINGTON) The American Farm Bureau Federation joined a lawsuit yesterday, challenging the Federal EPA’s strictest emissions requirements to date for passenger cars and trucks. The AFBF, National Corn Growers Association, American Petroleum Institute, and several auto dealers filed the lawsuit in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals seeking repeal of EPA’s vehicle emissions standards for model years 2027-2032. The standard would require 68% of new passenger vehicles and 43% of new medium-duty trucks & vans to be electric by 2032. In the lawsuit, the groups say the EPA exceeded its congressional authority and are asking that the final action be deemed unlawful and in turn, then vacated. Ag officials say the impractical standards for light-and-medium will drive up the cost of farm vehicles and force farmers to rely on a charging network that does not yet exist in rural areas.
