COWS IN TEXAS AND KANSAS INFECTED WITH HPAI

(CHAMPAIGN) The USDA has confirmed that four dairy herds in Texas and Kansas have been infected with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), while other dairies in New Mexico are awaiting test results. The USDA notes that this is the same strain of the virus impacting migratory birds and was likely spread to the diary cows by deceased wild birds, however there’s no evidence of the disease spreading from cow to cow. The USDA also says there is no concern about the safety of the commercial milk supply, plus the risk to human health remains low. For HPAI updates logon to the USDA website at aphis.usda.gov.
