(EFFINGHAM) The Illinois Department of Transportation is announcing that Illinois Route 33 will be closed in Lawrence County, northeast of Westport, for a tree removal project beginning this coming Monday, January 29th. A detour will be posted utilizing U.S. Route 50 and Illinois Route 1 from Lawrenceville to Robinson with the project expected to be completed within two weeks, by Tuesday, February 13th. Only local traffic with be allowed on Route 33, between Lasata Lane and County Road 1040 North. Motorists are encouraged to follow the posted detour and should allow for extra travel time. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
