(SPRINGFIELD) A new report says economic stability and reparations are key priorities for black residents of Illinois. With black people across the state interviewed by BlackRoots Alliance, the results found that compensation is only part of the package they hoped for along with reparations. Respondents also cited financial literacy and generational wealth along with economic stability for black-owned businesses. A new measure introduced in Springfield would create the Slavery Disclosure & Redress Ordinance which would require corporations seeking to do business in Illinois to pay reparations if they had ties to slavery.
(SPRINGFIELD) A recall has been issued for frozen shakes sold to nursing homes and long term care facilities in Illinois and twenty other states after an outbreak of listeria was linked to several deaths. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration says the supplemental shakes are sold under the Lyon ReadyCare & Sysco Imperial brands. The shakes have caused at least 38 people to fall ill in 21 states, with 37 hospitalizations and 11 deaths.
(SPRINGFIELD) For the first time in Illinois, the Secretary of State’s office is making Electronic Lien & Titling available when purchasing a vehicle from a participating dealer. The new program allows vehicle titles to be processed, stored, and released digitally, eliminating the need for paperwork and in-person visits to the DMV facility. Illinois is now among twenty-six (26) states across the country that provides the service.
(SPRINGFIELD) Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar yesterday revealed he’s been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Serving as the 38th Governor of Illinois from 1991 to 1999, Edgar previously served in the State House of Representatives and as Illinois Secretary of State.
