ILLINOIS STATE NEWS BRIEF (04/18/2025)

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Employment Security announced yesterday that nonfarm payrolls increased nearly 15,000 over-the-month to a record high of 6,172,300 in March. The industry sector with the largest over-the-month job increases was government. The unemployment rate in Illinois remained unchanged from February to March at 4.8 % with most downstate rates remaining even. The national unemployment rate is 4.2%.

(SPRINGFIELD) New guidelines have been implemented in Illinoios’ Underground Utility Facilities Damage Protection Act and all property owners should be aware. The goal is to enhance public safety, minimize risks to excavators, & prevent distruptions. (CHICAGO) The Illinois Supreme Court has announced that effective October 1st, 2025, the filing & appearance fees in minor guardianship cases, along with appearance fees in small claim cases, will all be eliminated. (SPRINGFIELD) The first Land of Lincoln Honor Flight in the 2025 flying season was this past Tuesday as Mission #73 included 93 total Veterans, 82 from the Vietnam Era and 11 from the Korean Era, from 41 home towns from around Illinois representing all branches of the military. While on the one day trip to Washington, D.C., the Veterans visited the World War II, Korean War, & Vietnam War Memorials, plus Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, & more. The Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, based in Springfield, has three more missions scheduled for this year, June 3rd, September 9th, & October 21st.
