(SUMNER) The Lawrence County Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is getting ready for its annual Hunting Heritage Banquet, set for Saturday, April 6th, at the Lawrence County 4-H Fairground, along U.S. Route 50, between Sumner and Bridgeport. With the doors opening at 5:30, a social hour will kick things off with a dinner and chances to win or purchase a wide array of items, such as framed art, guns, collectibles, outdoor equipment, & more, all through a variety of games, raffles, and auctions, including both silent and live. The banquet tickets are $70.00 for couples or $50.00 for singles and they’re available online at events.nwtf.org or by calling 812-568-6753. Sponsor Memberships are also available for $260 or $270 for couples. All proceeds go to conserve wild turkey habitat and the outdoors.

(OLNEY) There’s a winner every weekend at the Olney VFW with its next Queen of Hearts drawing, all open to the public, at 4:00 this Sunday afternoon. Following a $10 winner this past weekend, the top jackpot now is now up to $3,035 if the winner is present, or half that amount if not, plus smaller possible card winners as well. Tickets are on sale up until 3:30 Sunday. Stop by for tickets at the Olney VFW on North Walnut Street or call 392-4226.

(OLNEY) A fundraiser to benefit the Annual Jay Jones Memorial Race is coming up this Saturday evening at the Olney VFW, at 205 North Walnut Street, right north of the County Courthouse in Olney. With serving from 5:00 to 7:00, or until sold out, the Smokin’ Pig menu includes pulled pork and pork chop sandwiches and/or dinners, barbeque nachos or tacos, and specialty sandwiches, including the Piggy Mac, Smokin’ Mac Stack, and the Pork Everest. Also a live auction at 7:00 and music from DJ Josh Brown afterwards. All donations go to the 2nd Annual Jay Jones Memorial Race to be held at the Red Hill Raceway this year.

(OLNEY/NOBLE/NEWTON) Here’s list of Easter Egg Hunts that we’re aware of :

  • the Olney City Wide Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Olney Elks Lodge #926, is this Saturday in the Olney City Park, starting at 11:00. With free entry, it’s for children ages zero to ten with grand prizes for all age groups with over 10,000 eggs. Also free hot dogs. All welcome.
  • the Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton will host an Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 at its new Multi Purpose Building. All children ages birth to ten years old are welcome. It’s free entry to all children with plenty of prizes available for one and all.
  • an Easter Egg Hunt will be held for children this Saturday at the Village Park in Noble, beginning at 2:00. All children are invited with various prizes available.

(OLNEY) The Olney VFW will host a very special program to honor all area Vietnam War Veterans at 12:00 noon today. The guest speaker will be Illinois VFW Commander, Brett Nila, and the program is open to all Vietnam Era Veterans, to all respective widows, widowers, and family members of Vietnam Era Veterans, and to the public as well.

(OLNEY) The Claremont-Bonpas Fire Department and Village of Claremont will have their final Friday “Fish Frys” today and tonight, with all meals served at the Claremont Firehouse. The lunchtime serving is from 11:30 to 2:00 at $10.00 per adult and either dine in or carry out. Then it’s a dinner buffet in the evening with serving from 4:00 to 7:00, priced at $15.00 per adult, $10.00 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children age 5 and under. Plus the 50/50 drawing. Proceeds support the Fire Department and Claremont Village Park project.
