The Jasper County School Board held its regular monthly meeting in Newton on December 16. Key actions taken included:
- Approval of all bills as presented.
- Approval of the 2024 District Tax Levy.
- Approval of a resolution to abate a portion of taxes for debt service on the District’s General Obligation School Bonds.
- Approval of a $231,300 bid for the Newton High School roof replacement, with work scheduled to begin in May 2025.
- Decision to seek bids for roofing work at Newton Elementary School.
- Approval of the District’s $18,500 mowing contract with Griffith’s Lawn Care.
- First reading of 12 unchanged policies and 29 updated policies.
- A review of the Board’s participation in the Illinois Association of School Boards’ annual conference, where members attended seminars on topics such as tax levy requirements, student discipline, development, and school safety.
In personnel matters, the Board approved the following hires:
- Five tutors for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Andrea Clever as Junior High Assistant Softball Coach.
