JASPER COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MARCH 2025 UPDATE

The Jasper County School Board held its March meeting in Newton.

Key Decisions & Updates:

  • Financials: Approved the payment of all bills as presented.
  • New Board Member: Seated Nicole Mulvey to fill an unexpired term until Spring 2027.
  • Legislative Report:
    • State Budget Update: Evidence-Based Funding will increase.
    • Transportation Funding: Pro-rated again, shifting more financial responsibility to the district.
  • 2025-2026 School Calendar: Approved.
  • Membership Renewals: Renewed IHSA and IESA memberships.
  • Newton Elementary School Addition:
    • Planned for the east side of the school.
    • Funding Sources: Energy Transition Grant, 1% Sales Tax, and District reserves.
    • No Bond Referendum Required.
  • Illinois State Scholars Recognition:
    • 12 NCHS students honored:
      • Ian Bower, Wesley Britton, Caydon Goode, Sydney Kinder, Paige Klingler, Avery Mulvey, Mallory Ochs, Ella Radke, Charlotte Schackmann, Alisson Stanley, Isaac Street, and Olivia Zumbahlen.
    • Each received a silver eagle coin from Peoples State Bank.

Personnel Changes:

  • Resignations Accepted:
    • Michelle Johnson – SME Special Education Teacher
    • Chelsea Cox – NES Elementary Teacher
    • Tera Ederer – District Paraprofessional
    • Jeremy French – JCJH Cross Country Coach
  • Hirings Approved:
    • 18 staff members for Strong Girls / Strong Boys program.
    • Jeremy French as NCHS Golf Coach.
