(NEWTON) In Junior High Softball yesterday –
- Newton/Jasper County opened up with a win over Effingham, 4-2
The Junior Lady Eagles outhit the host Lady Mustangs, 6 to 4.
- Winning pitcher – Hailey Mulvey, striking out 12 in the complete 7 inning game
- Top hitters – Hailey Mulvey had 2 hits with an RBI and a run scored
- Mabry Wolf tripled & scored and Layla Thomann singled & scored
- Also Kraegan Groves doubled and Khloee Cooper had a single
The Junior Lady Eagles will be back in action at home in Newton this Saturday, a Round Robin Tournament with Oblong and Effingham St. Anthony.

- The Middle School Lady Cubs opened the season with a tough loss to Teutopolis, 17-1
The Olney squad was outhit by the visiting Junior Lady Shoes, 6 to 5
- Top hitters – Karleigh Westall had 2 hits & Kenzly Bryan had Olney’s only RBI hit
- also Lexi Schrader singled & scored and Norah Williams had Olney’s only other hit
The Lady Cubs return to action on Wednesday of next week, the Middle School ladies will host Cisne with a 4:30 start.
