(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois taxpayers may find out they are on the hook for another tax hike before the week is over with two days remaining in the fall veto session in Springfield. One of the many things lawmakers continue to hash out is how to address the fiscal cliff for mass transit, estimated at $230 million. Many agree that reforms are needed for the agency, but are pushing for the State House to pass the package the Senate approved back in May, which included a $1.50 surcharge for all retail deliveries. The veto session ends tomorrow (Thursday).

(CHICAGO) Attorney General Kwame Raoul has joined a coalition of 26 attorneys general and governors in filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture for suspending the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The coalition argues that the agency has access to billions of dollars in SNAP-specific contingency funds appropriated by Congress for use during events like government shutdowns and that the USDA has funded other programs with emergency funds during the shutdown, but refuses to fund SNAP.

(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois community colleges have once again recorded steady growth, marking the fourth consecutive year of enrollment increases, that’s according to the Fall 2025 Enrollment Report released by the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB). The statewide community college enrollment reached 274,737 students this fall, a 3.7 percent increase in headcount from last year. In fact, 38 of the state’s 45 community colleges now have higher enrollment compared to 2024, plus dual credit students jumped 9.3 percent.

(SPRINGFIELD) Turkey hunters in Illinois harvested a total of 255 wild turkeys during the 2025 fall firearm season, which ran October 18th through the 26th. That compares to 295 birds harvested last year. The fall firearm turkey hunting was open in 56 of Illinois’ 102 counties. The harvest leaders this fall were Jefferson and Jo Daviess Counties with 16 birds each. The record turkey harvest was set back in 2005 when 1,218 birds were harvested.
