(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Public Health announced late last week that residents who received partial or delayed SNAP funds in November will begin receiving full benefits for the month. In Illinois, nearly 1.9 million people rely on SNAP benefits to buy groceries. The IDPH says Illinois recipients are expected to see their full benefits of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by this coming Thursday, November 20th.
(SPRINGFIELD) University students and faculty are urging the Illinois Board of Higher Education to press Governor J.B. Pritzker to release more than $29 million in funding for state colleges and universities that state lawmakers approved earlier this year. The Governor says he will not release the money until a stable federal education policy comes from Washington.
(CHICAGO) The Illinois Attorney General’s Office is urging statewide residents who have lost money to cryptocurrency fraud and scams to report the incident to law enforcement and to be cautious of so-called “recovery” services. A recent change in Illinois law makes it easier for crypto kiosk or crypto ATM customers to get a refund if they have been scammed into sending money through a crypto ATM, but to be eligible for a refund, consumers must file a police report, plus the law requires victims to contact the crypto ADM operator within 30 days to report the scam and to submit a police report within 60 days. (SPRINGFIELD) Today is the final day for Illinois taxpayers to pay outstanding eligible tax liabilities and have related penalties and interest forgiven. The state’s 2025 tax amnesty period runs from October 1st to November 17th this year for tax debt from periods between June 30th, 2018 and July 1st, 2024. The Illinois Department of Revenue says the state is on track to meet its goal of netting more than $240 million through this year’s tax amnesty period.
