NEWS FROM AROUND ILLINOIS

(CHICAGO) Ahead of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the Illinois Attorney General’s office is reminding statewide residents to exercise caution when shopping both online and in person. All shoppers should take time to review the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) recent recalls and product safety warnings before shopping this holiday season. The CPSC’s up to date list online at cpsc.gov highlights hundreds of items with recalls and/or safety warnings, including household goods, furniture, clothing, toys, and more. Shoppers are also encouraged to research the packaging and safety of items for signs of tampering or damage before purchasing. For more information and/or details, check the illinoisattorneygeneral.gov website online.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Revenue is urging statewide residents to protect themselves from fraud and identity theft while shopping during the holiday season. The IDR’s tips include shopping with trusted and local retailers, paying with a credit card, using strong passwords & secure websites, avoiding public Wi-Fi for financial transactions, and monitoring all accounts. Folks are also urged to be alert for delivery and package tracking scams as well.

(SPRINGFIELD) Drivers in Illinois are reminded that State Troopers and local law enforcement agencies all around Illinois are out in extra force today through next Tuesday night, conducting hundreds of saturation patrols, roadside safety checks, and enforcement zones, looking for those not buckled up, for those driving impaired by alcohol and/or drugs, for those texting while driving, for those who are speeding, and for those violating other important rules of the road.
