NEWTON CITY COUNCIL MEETING RECAP (01/19/2024)

(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met in regular session earlier this week on Tuesday night. The Council : approved the payment of pre-paid bills worth $212,583 and the payment of other bills worth $151,681 : approved the reimbursement of $15,000 for demolition work at 706 Fairground Street : approved the reimbursement of $8,081 for demolition work at 304 West Curtis Street : approved an ordinance pertaining to Water Well Maximum Setback Zones : agreed to table discussion about a city limit property disconnection : agreed to send the Newton City Attorney to the IML Spring Municipal Attorney Seminar in March down in Mt. Vernon : agreed to make three appropriation changes to Contingency Funds – $5,000 to Equipment Repair – $3,000 to Training Expenses – $3,000 to EMA Miscellaneous Expenses : noted that the City of Newton has now taken over the Lights in the Park Christmas Display : and took no action after a 39-minute executive session to discuss personnel : the next regular meeting for the Newton City Council will be at 6:00 on the night of February 6th.
