NEWTON CITY COUNCIL MEETING RECAP (04/05/2024)

(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met earlier this week on Tuesday night. The Council : approved a Collection Services Agreement with ONLINE Collections to collect on unpaid utility debt within the City of Newton : approved two purchase requests from the Electric Department – $28,826 for nine SM Substation Power Fuses and $18,050 for ten Pole Mount Transformers : on a 5 to 1 vote, approved a two-year lease agreement with Fabick Tractor Company for a 2024 backhoe loader in the amount of $4,802 per month : agreed to amend the City of Newton’s City Clerk’s position to a full-time elected position with an annual salary at $58,000 effective May 1st, 2025 : on a 5 to 1 vote, authorized the City Attorney to proceed with changes to Chapter 11, Electric System, in the City’s Municipal Code : agreed to send two City employees to the IEMA Conference in Springfield in May : agreed to re-hire Suzi McCann as the Newton Aquatic Center Manager : agreed to re-hire Kristie Finley and Kathleen Terry as Assistant Managers at the Aquatic Center : and agreed to set two City-Wide Cleanup Days on Friday and Saturday, May 17th and 18th : next meeting is April 16th.
