NEWTON CITY COUNCIL MEETING RECAP (04/18/2024)

(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met in regular session this past Tuesday night. The Council : approved the payment of all bills as presented – $186,438 in pre-paids and $76,739 in accounts payable : tabled action on an agreement with IDOT and the Indiana Rail Road for three crossing improvement projects in Newton : approved the 2024-2025 City of Newton balanced budget : approved two Dumpster Reimbursement Applications, each at $2,421 : approved $32,842 for additional sidewalk replacement work along East Washington Street : approved an additional cost of $2,867 for that sidewalk replacement work as well : agreed to conduct a survey and then prepare a right-of-way easement between East Curtis Street and Maxwell Street : accepted the retirement letter from Brad Benefiel effective May 15th, 2024 – that’s after 34 years of employment with the City of Newton : on a 4 to 1 vote, agreed to buy a 2013 GMC truck from McClane Motors worth $11,673 for the City’s Wastewater Department : and approved the purchase of concrete forms for the Street Department, worth $4,988 : the next regular meeting for the Newton City Council will be May 7th, 2024, at Newton City Hall.
