PLENTY OF ACTIVITIES THE REST OF THIS WEEK

(STRINGTOWN) The Stringtown Community Club will host a “soup supper” this Sunday evening at the Parish Center in Stringtown, running from 4:00 until 6:00. While the menu consists of chili, vegetable soup, and chicken noodle soup with free refills, also available will be hot dogs or grilled cheese sandwiches, plus pie or ice cream and coffee, lemonade, or tea to drink. A full meal deal will be available with a choice of soup, sandwich, dessert, and drink, all for $10.00 per person or items can be purchased separately. They will also have a cake walk, basket raffle, and 50/50 drawing. All are invited this Sunday to Stringtown.


(BIBLE GROVE) It’s family fun, music, and entertainment this coming Sunday afternoon at Gym Bob’s Jamboree Show in Bible Grove, in northern Clay County. With the doors opening at 12:00 noon, all shows begin at 1:00, hosted by Mike Porter, Marsha Banning, and the Gym Bob’s Jamboree Band, plus this month features another 50’s and 60’s Show. (DUNDAS) The Dundas Ruritan Club will have it’s fall breakfast this coming Saturday morning with serving from 7:00 to 12:00 noon with tickets at door at $9.00 per person or a dollar less in advance, at $8.00 per person. (SAILOR SPRINGS) The Clay City/Sailor Springs American Legion Post #230 has its first Saturday of the month breakfast and annual Fall Meat Shoot this Saturday. With breakfast by donation at the door, serving runs from 7:00 to 10:00, followed by lunch with serving from 10:30 to 1:30, including vegetable soup, chili, sloppy joes, and drinks. The Meat Shoot begins at 10:00, bring your own shotguns with prizes awarded. Plus the gun raffle with the drawing at 1:30 with guns and cash prizes. Tickets on sale Saturday or get them in advance from any Legion member at $10.00 per ticket or get three tickets for $25.00. Check it out.


(OLNEY) Get ready for a busy Halloween Night coming up this weekend in downtown Olney. It all begins this Friday with the TrustBank Halloween Parade at 6:00, leaving the TrustBank downtown parking lot, moving west on Main Street, then south on Whittle Avenue, and ending at Bower Park. Then the Fifth Friday Market will open at the end of the parade, starting at around 6:30 in downtown Olney with two hours of various vendor and Trunk-or-Treat booths, chili, hot cocoa, apple cidar, and more available to buy, and all the downtown shops and stores will be open for shopping. Also the Richland County High School Bands will have their fifth annual Fright Night at Bower Park follow the parade with show times at 6:45 and again at 7:10 with plenty of candy handed out as well. Then the Witches Walk for ladies age 21 and older will start promptly at 8:00, but for only those that have signed up in advance with the Chamber Office. That’s all a week from this Friday night, Halloween Night, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Olney.

(CLAREMONT) Also coming up this weekend is the Fifth Annual Trunk or Treat event in the Village of Claremont, running from 6:00 to 8:30 Friday night, on Halloween Night. With a Halloween Story Time in the Village Park, presented by the community volunteers, there will be free hot dogs and pork burgers, courtesy of the Claremont-Bonpas Fire Department and Emerald Cleaning Services, plus free chili by Brian Woods at Woods Auto Body, & free drinks, such as lemonade & sweet or unsweet tea, courtesy of Volk Skid Steer & Excavating. (NEWTON) The online voting is continuing for the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce’s Halloween Pumpkin Decorating Contest with the winners to be announced this Friday, on Halloween, October 31st. There with be three winners in both the business & organization category and the school/team/club category. The online voting continues until 8:00 this coming Friday morning by going to the Jasper County Chamber’s page on Facebook. Also a reminder that Trick or Treat Night in the City of Newton is Friday night from 5:00 to 7:00.

That’s from 8:00 to 12:00 in the morning and from 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon with the Pfizer Covid vaccinations and all types of flu shots available.
