(OLNEY) Don’t forget the annual Olney Christmas Parade is scheduled for tomorrow night. With judging from 5:00 to 5:30, the parade will line up at the Immanuel United Methodist Church, at 700 North East Street, and starting at 6:30, the parade will follow the usual yearly route, moving from the church south of East Street, then west on Main Street, then south on Whittle Avenue, and ending at West North Avenue. Meanwhile, in an effort to make the Christmas Parade another safe and successful event, the City of Olney has put into place a “Temporary No Parking Order” which will be in effect Saturday from 3:00 to 9:00 that afternoon and evening. The “Temporary No Parking Order” will be along the parade route, that includes both sides of North East Street, Main Street, and South Whittle Avenue from Main Street to West North Avenue. The public’s cooperation is appreciated. Should there be excess snow and/or rain, the Parade will be a night later, this Sunday evening, at 6:30.
(STE. MARIE) All are invited out this weekend to Whoville 2024 in Ste. Marie. There will be plenty of indoor and outdoor fun tomorrow, starting with the Whoville 5K run from 7:30 to 9:00 in the morning (show up earlier to sign up). The Whoville vendors will be set up from 9:00 to 4:00, throughout the day at the American Legion, plus the Whoville characters will be available for pictures, along with skating, all from 10:00 to 4:00. The Foundation House Museum will be open from 10:00 to 2:00, along with plenty of food at the American Legion. All are encouraged to dress up and show up for Whoville 2024 in Ste. Marie tomorrow.
(OLNEY) Today, this Friday, is being noted as “Plaid Friday” in Olney, as downtown businesses are working together to promote a “shop local” initiative to encourage revitilization of the downtown area. The desire is to be a source of support to the Olney and Richland County community and all local small businesses during this 2024 holiday season. So wear your favorite plaid or flannel outfits and shop in downtown Olney today.
(OLNEY) All are encouraged to get ready for next week’s Richland County Firefighter Food Drive, set for next Thursday, December 5th. Starting at 6:00 that evening, the door-to-door pickup will take place at homes with their front porch lights on in Calhoun, Claremont, Dundus, Noble, Olney, and Parkersburg, with only non-perishable foods accepted. Donated food can also be dropped off from now until next Thursday at Noble Foods, the Wakefield Mill, the TNT Stop in Claremont, and at three sites in Olney, Market Street Medical, Carle RMH (East Street entrance from 8:00 to 4:00), and the Olney Fire Department, all during regular hours. All the food collected will be donated to the Good Samaritan of Richland County to help those families in need throughout the county this Christmas season.
(NEWTON) The Christmas Lights in the Park in Newton continue to be lit up each weekend now through January 4th, 2025, in Peterson Park. With dozens of displays set up throughout the park, visitors can follow the signs and drive through Peterson Park from start to finish. That’s each night from 5:00 to 9:00, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Newton. Check it out.
(OBLONG) The Oblong Christmas in the Park lights and displays are now available for viewing. That’s each night now through January 1st, 2025. That’s all in the City of Oblong.
(OLNEY) The Olney Christmas Lights Display is lit up now each night through New Year’s Eve in the Olney City Park. That’s from from 5:00 to 10:00 each Friday and Saturday night and from 5:00 to 9:00 each Sunday through Thursday night. And don’t forget, if possible, donations are accepted each night at the end of the display to help with display expenses and repairs. A huge “thank you” to the volunteers in the Bucket Brigade collecting funds.
(OLNEY) Due to rain Wednesday evening, the Friends of Olney Annual Christmas Tree Lighting was cancelled and has been rescheduled for this Friday evening at Bower Park, running from 5:00 to 6:00. All are invited to stop by for come great fellowship with carolling and refreshments, including cookies, hot cocoa, & more. All ages are welcomed to stop by.
(NEWTON) It’s another Queen of Hearts drawing this Friday night at 6:30 at the American Legion Post 20 in Newton, with tickets on sale up until draw time, and a jackpot at $24,510. The Queen’s Menu includes free ham & beans, with serving to start at 5:00. All are invited.
