Only four states ranked higher, with Maryland leading the nation at an average borrower balance of $43,781. Illinois was also the only Midwestern state to rank among the top 10 states for average student loan debt.

Illinois Free Fishing Days Continue Through June 22

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is encouraging residents and visitors to take advantage of Illinois Free Fishing Days, which run through June 22.

During the event, anglers can fish in Illinois waters without purchasing a fishing license, salmon stamp, or inland trout stamp. The annual program is designed to introduce more people to fishing while providing families with an affordable outdoor activity.

Under normal circumstances, Illinois residents pay $15 for a fishing license, while additional permits and stamps may require extra fees.

State officials hope the event will encourage both experienced anglers and first-time fishermen to explore Illinois lakes, rivers, and streams before Free Fishing Days conclude on June 22.
