(SPRINGFIELD) A national teaching organization is giving Illinois poor marks on policies to improve reading instruction. The National Council on Teacher Quality published a report that highlights five policy actions that states can take to support teachers in the science of reading. Illinois received a “weak” rating because it lacks strong policies in two of the five key policy actions to strengthen reading instruction within school districts.

(SPRINGFIELD) An outbreak of salmonella in Illinois and 13 other states has been linked to food trays sold at Sam’s Club stores. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reports at least two dozen people have been sickened after eating the items. The food trays were shipped to Sam’s Club distribution centers in Illinois and seven other states. The items are stamped with a “Best If Used by April 27th, 2024” sticker.

(SPRINGFIELD) Six sports shoes worn by Michael Jordan when he led the Chicago Bulls to six championships are going up for auction. Noted as The Dynasty Collection, the auction list will include one Air Jordan tennis shoe from each of NBA Finals clinching games. Officials estimate the collection of shoes could fetch as much as $10 million altogether.
