MARCH 2024 USDA CROP PROGRESS REPORT

(CHAMPAIGN) In yesterday’s USDA Crop Progress Report for the month of March, the statewide average temperature was 45.7 degrees in Illinois, 6.1 degrees above normal. The state’s precipitation so far has averaged 1.87 inches in March, which is 0.42 inches below normal. Illinois’ topsoil and suboil moisture supplies were rated 44% and 45% short to very short, 53% adequate for both, but only 3% and 2% surplus respectively. The state’s winter wheat condition was rated 9% poor to very poor, 16% fair, and 75% good to excellent.
